The state tournament is finally set to kick off with Groups 2 and 4 getting started tonight. Non-Public A and B does not get started until Wednesday, but it should be filled with excitement. Here are the potential breakout players to watch in Non-Public A.

[player_tooltip player_id="1213554" first="Brandon" last="Benjamin"], 6’7 PF Bergen Catholic 2024

Benjmain is in the middle of a breakout season for the Crusaders and is looking to continue his breakout campaign in the state tournament. The 6’7 forward plays with a nonstop motor and is tough to keep off the glass at both ends of the floor. Benjamin uses his length altar shots around the basket and sets good screens in the half court. He has a nice touch around the basket and is becoming more confident in his shooting. Benjamin is a hard-working forward prospect who is set for a big state tournament for Bergen Catholic.

[player_tooltip player_id="1269732" first="Kamal" last="Lee"], 6’0 PG St. Thomas Aquinas 2023

Lee has been a big part of the Trojans’ success as he fits in nicely into their backcourt. The 6’0 guard has a quick first step, which he uses to blow by his defender in the halfcourt. Lee is more than just a slasher as he has a nice release on his jumper and knock down shots from behind the arc. He is a pesky on-ball defender as he slides his feet and gets deflections on the defensive end. Lee is a two-way guard prospect who should continue to make plays for St. Thomas Aquinas during the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="1150263" first="Evan" last="Cabral"], 6’1 CG Don Bosco Prep 2023

Cabral has been a steady presence in the backcourt for the Ironmen and should continue to do so in the state tournament. The 6’1 guard is a good on-ball defender and knows how to get deflections on the defensive end. Cabral is a strong rebounder for a guard and is unafraid of diving on the floor for loose balls. He attacks the basket with a purpose and can finish through contact. Cabral is a tough guard prospect who does whatever it takes to win.

[player_tooltip player_id="931026" first="Cy" last="Arvanitis"], 6’3 SG Red Bank Catholic 2022

Arvanitis has the potential to have a big state tournament for the Caseys with his ability to stretch the floor. The 6’3 guard is a sniper from distance with a quick release and deep range. Arvanitis moves exceptionally well off the ball, creating open jumpers and layups for himself. The ball does not stick in his hands and has an underrated handle. Arvanitis is a sharpshooting guard who has the chance to hit clutch shots for Red Bank Catholic during the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="902754" first="Jordan" last="Atkins"], 6’0 PG Rutgers Prep 2023

Atkins is fresh off an eight-assist performance in the Somerset County final and should carry that over into the state tournament. The 6’0 floor general is a good passer and plays with good court vision. Atkins has a nice handle, which he uses to get into the lane and make play. He slides his feet well on the defensive end and is also capable of playing off the ball. Atkins is part of a talented Rutgers Prep backcourt that is looking to make a deep run in the state tournament.
