SANTA ANA, Ca—In a battle between the two of the notorious programs in the country, Bishop Gorman eventually blew the top off in the 4th quarter as they stormed to an 89-59 victory over Whitney Young. Led by their dynamic perimeter duo of 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="986956" first="Jase" last="Richardson"] and Darrion Williams, the pair dropped 20 and 24-points, respectively—and they did in a variety of ways. Miami signee [player_tooltip player_id="771516" first="AJ" last="Casey"] tried to keep his team close with his 18-points, but the Gaels were too relentless in the end.

Joel’s Take: Richardson, whose father Jason played in the NBA for a number of years, is a high-level prospect as well. The left-handed prospect has great length, exceptional quickness, and he impacts the game in a number of ways. He is a scoring point guard who has a smooth 3-point shot and he can burst to the rim as well. He plays with a hot motor at both ends and is a relentless force in transition. His jump shot (4-of-6 from the 3-point stripe) was on as well and his stroke looks smooth.

Joel’s Take: “Basketball Player” is the best way to describe Williams. He stuffed the stat sheet into a variety of categories. He can score from all three levels, grabbed some impressive rebounds, and handed out some nifty assists. Not to mention he was disruptive on the defensive end with his five steals. He is one of the better-unsigned prospects in the West.

Joel’s Take: Casey has all the physical tools to be an excellent college player. The length, quickness, and skill are evident. He has a soft shooting touch, good hands, and he’s quite bouncy. His ball skills are solid in the open court and he can attack from the elbow. Defensively, he showed his knack for being around the ball with 4 steals. Overall, he’s a finesse 4-man, but he needs to be more physical to be an immediate impact player for the Hurricanes.

Future is bright

[player_tooltip player_id="1110114" first="John" last="Mobley Jr"] (Bishop Gorman)

2024, PG, 6-foot-1, 155 pounds

Joel’s Take: Mobley has a touch of the Curry brothers in him due to his feathery shooting touch. He has a young frame that should fill out nicely and he has long arms. His shooting touch is only part of the game as he has the ball skills and feel to play both guard positions. Although the stats are not up to his usual standards, his impact of the game was noted.

Lefty with a stroke

[player_tooltip player_id="1264213" first="Eli" last="Bradley"] (Bishop Gorman)

2023, G, 6-foot-4, 180 pounds

Joel’s Take: Bradley is one of the better shooters of the event. The lefty has a Chris Mullin (former NBA standout) stroke to his game as he went 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. He sets up his shot well and his release is impeccable. The are other aspects of the game he impacts as well as he showed a strong motor and a high IQ.

Relentless Attacker

[player_tooltip player_id="939057" first="Dalen" last="Davis"] (Whitney Young)

2023, PG, 6-foot, 170 pounds

Joel’s Take: Davis wasn’t overly efficient (6-of-16 fga), but his impact was felt. He was the primary ball-handler against Bishop Gorman’s vaunted press defense. He grinds his defenders and attacks the rim well due to his strength. He snapped passes to open shooters and managed the game well.
