On Friday January 21st I attended the 6A Maricopa Rams at the 6A Mountain Pointe Pride.

Here were some standouts from the JV game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1375692" first="Andrew" last="Hoxie"] Maricopa

A super long and lean forward who moves well and can take a few steps and flush it down above the rim. He can put the ball on the floor with straight line drives. He can pull-up off the dribble and hit from mid-range. He scores it decently through contact and can step out and hit the 3.

Julius Moffet SG 6’0 2024 Maricopa

A thicker guard who plays a physical brand of ball for the position. He scores it inside the paint with his frame and toughness. A good defender and rebounder using his aggressive attitude.

Nate Burrow PG 5’9 2024 Maricopa

A PG with good quickness and a real burst to get to the basket off the bounce and will score it in traffic with left or right hand. He has a good FT stroke and nice court vision, but is more of a scoring lead guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138527" first="TJ" last="Clark"] Mountain Pointe

A versatile wing forward who can defend almost every position on the court. He handles the ball well and can push the break. He scores it from inside and out and plays the passing lanes well to collect steals.

Varsity game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1263804" first="Jaylon" last="Johnson"] Mountain Pointe

A big man with good length and a decent touch with his free throws. He will rebound and block shots in his area. He has been playing with an injured leg all season long and playing through the pain. When he is on the court, the Pride can all go to their natural positions.

[player_tooltip player_id="814036" first="Tru" last="Washington"] Mountain Pointe

A tough guard with an elite motor. It will be hard pressed to find a player in the AIA who plays harder then him. He rebounds in and out of his area like his life depends on it. He makes contested layups in traffic on the norm and he understands how to free himself to get space. He seems to will his way to the basket with grit and a good handle. He can create his own shot off the dribble and rise up from mid-range. He can hit the 3, hesi and go to cup to dunk it or use the floater. He finished with a game high 27 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1345403" first="Jayven" last="Price"] Mountain Pointe

Price got the start for Brown Jr. The PG made good decisions with the ball and scored it. He can fall away on his defenders, he can pull-up from the 3 and get to the basket plus use the finger roll. He finished with 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="936768" first="Tanner" last="Pate"] Mountain Pointe

The sniper of the team can hit the 3 with a quicker release. He is a smart player who gets to the open spots on the floor. He will be very valuable in the playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1180583" first="Marsai" last="Mason"] Mountain Pointe

A long wing forward is eerily built like Mikal Bridges. He can hit the 3, rebound and block shots in and out of his area. He runs the floor well and will defend the 2-4 for the Pride.

[player_tooltip player_id="831115" first="Kevin" last="Patton Jr"] Mariocpa

One of the most unique players in the class. He is a legit point forward with some of he best passing I saw this AIA season. He made a few full court passes on a dime plus will drive and kick it with his left or right hand effortlessly. His ability to create his own shot off the dribble is impressive and is a natural slasher to the basket. He plays way above the rim on the break and he can hit the contested 3. He has a floater with either hand and is easily one of the best shot blockers in the state. He finished with 22 points and 5 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id="1062311" first="Kallai" last="Patton"] Maricopa

A long and athletic combo/wing has incredible speed in the open court like a track star. His burst into the lane is sudden and he is shockingly athletic. He threw one down in traffic with his left hand that had the crowd buzzing. He rises up high on his jumpers and he could be a shut down corner type. He has big time lateral quickness and slows down his opponents. He isn’t asked to score it too much but will collects steals, blocks, rebound and dime his teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1120836" first="Khayree" last="Rashad"] Maricopa

The revelation of the game was Rashad. A true post player who brings physicality to the game. He makes layups with either hand and is scoring all his points in the paint. He has a decent FT touch and will rebound and block shots. He gives them the ability for Patton Jr to play more on the wing. His stock is way up!
