Capping off our leading scorers list, Reed has turned heads all year thanks to his ability to heat up on the perimeter while doubling down as an interior creator. The 6’2 guard has put up head scratching numbers, 31.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on excellent shooting splits of 52% from the field, 38% from three, and 86% from the free throw line. Reed has been putting up gawdy numbers all season, scoring 53 versus Peak to Peak before going on a three game hot streak where he averaged 42.7 points while contributing 44% of field goal attempts. He has been especially prolific as a volume shooter, attempting 8.7 threes per game while consistently creating pressure around the rim with his 7.6 free throw attempts. There are a variety of reasons as to why Reed is excelling, however the most obvious is his elite ball-handling that allows him to play under control no matter the circumstances.
Will Yebio Will Yebio 6'0" | CG Bishop Machebeuf | 2022 State CO – Bishop Machebeuf
Yebio comes in as 3A’s second highest leading scorer thanks to his ability to get downhill either direction. The 5’11 guard comes into the season averaging 27.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals on shooting splits of 42/26/70. While Reed was prolific drawing free throws, Yebio took it to another level with 161 attempts on the year, averaging just over 10 free throw attempts per game. Yebio also hails from a soccer background which has become increasingly evident thanks to his elite endurance, change of speeds, and advanced footwork.
Sam Howery Sam Howery 6'1" | PG St. Mary’s | 2022 State CO – Saint Mary’s
Howery is a well known athlete at the 3A level thanks to his drive and kick prowess. The 6’ point guard has lead Saint Mary’s to a 18-1 record while going for a casual 26.4 points, 9.3 assists, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.1 steals on shooting splits of 49/23/73. Howery handles himself with a level of maturity not often found among high schoolers, by playing with patience and not allowing defenders to speed him up. On five occasions, Howery has put up 12 or more assists with four or fewer turnovers. The testament to how elite of a driver the CSU Pueblo commit has been, he is shooting only 23% from three except he is still managing to create over five free throw attempts regardless of the defense giving him perimeter space.
Emilio Garcia – Grand Valley
Hailing from Parachute, Colorado, the 5’10 combo guard has been the heart and soul of his high school team throughout the season. Garcia is averaging 23.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 5.2 steals per game on shooting splits of 35/27/65. While Garcia’s efficiency has room to grow, he has done incredible getting to the rack, averaging just over 8 free throws per game. Another testament to Garcia’s high energy level has been his current membership to 3A’s five steal per game club, as there are only three others in the class touting this metric.
Tayt Chacon Tayt Chacon 6'4" | PF University | 2022 State CO – University
The 6’5 Chacon has made use of size, strength, and shooting fluidity to propel him into high level company among the 3A division. Playing three sports has allowed Chacon the necessary strength and mobility that not many teams in the Patriot league have an answer for. On the year he is averaging 22.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.5 steals on shooting splits of 55/37/74. Chacon is most dangerous when able to create driving lanes, of his games where he attempted 10 or more free throws he averaged 30.2 points. While free throws are not the sole reason for his success, it will always allow him a bit more space to create a jump shot.
