Oddly enough, that game was at Concord High School in Elkhart which is FAR northern Indiana. I guess if there is anyone who knows how to handle the roads in the snow it is the people of Elkhart. Since the Minutemen’s game against the NorthWood Panthers was LITERALLY the only game in town (or Indiana) tonight it seemed fitting to do a game report.
The only game in town certainly made for some entertaining basketball. NorthWood, ranked as the #1 team in Class 3A by Prep Hoops Indiana, held on to a small advantage most of the way. It was a 28-23 game at the half and the Panthers still led by three going into the final period. However, the Minutemen just wouldn’t go away. They were able to control the pace of the game and limit NorthWood star Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN for the most part.
Eventually it came down to a 46-46 game with just under a minute to play. NorthWood missed free throws down the stretch that could have put them ahead and had a couple of good looks at the basket off of an out-of-bounds underneath situation with about 10 seconds to play. They couldn’t get one to fall though and the game headed to overtime still all knotted up at 46 a piece.
Ian Raasch had a couple of big buckets at the beginning of the overtime period for the Panthers scoring the first four points. However, in the end, it came down to Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN being the best player on the floor. The junior guard hit a layup at the buzzer for NorthWood to escape with a 52-50 victory and move to 17-1 on the season. Brenner finished with a game-high 17 points.
