Greenbrier (20-2) is a team that certainly does not get a lot of ink, but their resume can go head-to-head against anybody outside of the top two teams.
Derek Taylor put up nine points in the win over Creek Wood Tuesday. He and Ethan Crumb did their damage in the second quarter, combining for 8 of the 10 in that frame. It was a quiet night offensively for Brayden Rector (seven points). Look out for Jayce Mangrum, the junior lead his team with 14 points and he summoned 12 points in the second half alone.
The Bobcats are balanced and heavily, appropriately reliant upon upperclassmen scorers and rebounders. It will take several mighty blows to bring down this dragon.
ADDED: Lawrence County, South-Doyle, Dyersburg
South-Doyle is the only team able of adding a Top 40 player midseason. Tai Cates Tai Cates 5'11" | PG South-Doyle | 2023 State TN transferred from Alcoa to SDHS. His impact was immediate and significant. Though South-Doyle has six losses, several came against really good teams. In December, South-Doyle lost to two then-Top 10 teams Fulton and Scott. Ensworth gave the Cherokees a loss too.
BOUNCED: South Gibson, Sullivan East, White County
The Patriots of Sullivan East are having a tough fortnight.
South Gibson suffered numerous “good losses”, but they also took some unfortunate losses too. Recent losses include: Crockett County, Collierville, Jackson South Side x2, Jackson North Side. Victories sprinkled in were strong though, winning over North Side, Dyersburg, and the weaker Liberty Tech.
The bottom 3 teams all fell out with their play in the last 10 days. White County was surprising by making a strong season without Mr. Basketball Grant Slatten. Credit Japheth Richmond Japheth Richmond 6'6" | PF White County | 2023 State TN . The bouncy, versatile senior is playing tremendously.
