Continue ReadingIt is hard to really label prospects as “stock-risers” as freshmen. First of all, we’ve only been aware of these players for a handful of months at the longest. Secondly, this was our first time putting out rankings for the class so nobody “improved” their positioning. However, this article is going to look at five Class of 2025 prospects who have really turned heads and/or outperformed expectations during their respective freshmen seasons.
Grady Carpenter Grady Carpenter 6'5" | PG Tipton | 2025 State IN (Tipton H.S.)
Carpenter is a do-it-all wing that has put together a very solid freshman season at Tipton. There aren’t that many 2025 prospects that start on good teams, but Carpenter is one of them. The 6’3″ wing averages 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game for the Blue Devils.
Camden Craig Camden Craig 6'4" | SF Switzerland County | 2025 State IN (Switzerland County H.S.)
There is a pretty good chance a lot of basketball fans around the state of Indiana haven’t heard about Cam Craig yet. Get really to learn a lot about him over the next few years. The 6’3″ wing averages 20.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Pacers down in southern Indiana. He is a legitimate scoring threat from all three levels with exceptional efficiency for a freshman.
Chris Hurt Chris Hurt 5'11" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2025 State IN (Crispus Attucks H.S.)
Hurt was probably the lesser known of the three star freshmen in Attucks’ Class of 2025. However, he slowly worked his way into the starting lineup for the Tigers and is now averaging just under four assists per game while they play their best basketball of the season. He is an explosive left-handed point guard that has ran the show like a floor general well beyond his years.
Marvin Schindler Marvin Schindler 5'9" | PG South Bend Riley | 2025 State IN (South Bend Riley H.S.)
He may still be small, but this feisty guard has found a way to make a significant impact right away at the varsity level. Schindler is the second leading scorer for a 10-8 Riley squad averaging 9.2 points per game. He is shooting above 40% from 3-point range as well. I saw him go 4/6 from deep in an impressive win against Guerin Catholic earlier this season. One to keep an eye one.
Jack Smiley Jack Smiley 6'2" | PG Valparaiso | 2025 State IN (Valparaiso H.S.)
This left-handed guard has made an instant impact at the high school level. Smiley has been a consistent scoring threat for the 17-3 Vikings that have spent quite a bit of time in the Class 4A Top 10 this season. The 6’0″ guard is excellent off of the dribble with sneaky athleticism at the end of his drives. He debuted in our 2025 rankings at #9 overall and as the #2 ranked shooting guard.
