Class of 2022 Ranking Review: Top 20 Combo Guards

Historically, Louisiana has been guard-heavy at the high school level. Because of this, guards have had to develop their skils of shooting and handling an offense to play at the next level. The 2022 class is a perfect example of this as we have an assortment of guards who fit that catergory. In this class of 2022 ranking review, we will look at the top 20 combo guards in the state.

- Finister is the top combo guard in the class and he plays for the top team in class 4A (Carver). His assist totals have picked up this season while still scoring at a high clip. He will be a very good guard on the next level and is deserving of his present offers.

- While defense is his calling card, Manning has developed into the embodiment of a combo guard. When he plays the point for Bossier, there is no doubt that he is the floor general. At the two, he is very good at spotting up or moving off screens.

- He is very good as a role player for Zachary but can take over games in his own right. His ability to back down guards and shoot over them shows his basketball awareness. Decuir is also lethal in transition. It is hard to stop him when he attacks the rim.

- Stoner is the best defender in this group of guards. He can take over games with his man-to-man defense and transition finishes. His improvement as a scorer has opened plenty of eyes this season. His 59 point game is a prime example.

- Waddles high level play over the summer has continued into the high school season. He is a three level scorer with a velvet touch from deep. His ability to score and facilitate will give the Eagles a good chance when the Division II playoffs begin.

- One of the most quiet an unassuming players at the high school level. Those traits should not fool anyone though. When it comes to crunchtime, he is unflappable. His ability to take key shots and make key assist are why McMain is so dangerous in 4A.
7. Willie Anderson Willie Anderson 6'2" | CG G.W. Carver | 2022 State LA - Anderson has developed into one of the best combo guards in the state taking adavantage of what teams give him. He can drive and take contact with the best of them or run an offense. His maturation gives Carver just another weapon in seeking the 4A crown.

- The small freshman sniper has grown into 2,000 point scoring combo guard that makes his teammates better. There is a reason why Neville has been as good as they have been the last three years. He rarely makes a bad play and does not beat himself.

- When I think of a two-way guard, Arvie is one of the first names on the list. He is a combo guard who can kill teams from the mid-range in on offense or lock up his man on defense. His ability to score and defend will give Beau Chene a legit shot at the title.

- The Clayton State signee has one of the best strokes in the high school game. He is also an underrated facilitator who can make the correct pass or play at the right time. His shooting ability opens up the floor for his other attributes to help his team win.

- A 2x state champion with a college body already. His ability to attack the rim give Simsboro a legit chance at number 3.
12. Zach Fenn Zach Fenn 6'2" | CG St. Paul | 2022 State LA - His ability to score, rebound, and facilitate makes St. Paul better. He will dunk on you too. Might lead them to a state title as well.
13. Leland Smith Leland Smith 6'3" | CG Edna Karr | 2022 State LA - He has shown time and time again this season he can score and drop dimes. Karr has been a better team for it.

- Johnson has grown as a leader and become a better passer this year. Probably the best pure scorer on this list.

- Lewis thrives in the open floor and has become a better shooter and passer this season. He takes no plays off.....period!

- His athleticism at the point makes him very attractive to teams. He knows how to win, defend, and score. Just lethal.
17. Tony Walker Tony Walker 6'3" | CG Northlake Christian | 2022 State LA - If the defense gives him a lane, he is attacking the rim. One of the more physical guards who can draw and kick very well.
18. Jaquevius Thompson Jaquevius Thompson 6'3" | CG Caldwell Parish | 2022 State LA - He can take over a game for long stretches from all three levels but is very unselfish. High IQ player also.

- Not many on the 1A level can post, shoot from deep, and cross people over. He is not any player though.

- A high level defender who loves to draw and find open guys. He can get unbeliveably hot quickly. Ask Woodlawn.
Louisiana has some others that can play on the next level because of their ability to do the things that these players can.
