It’s state tournament week in Florida.

Today, my focus brings me to Class 4A Region 4. The No. 1 seed is Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy. The Eagles (19-2) are led by head coach Cilk McSweeney. Calvary Christian Academy won the Class 3A state title last season.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] is averaging 15.6 points, eight rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game while shooting 66 percent from the floor. The 6-foot-10 forward is one of the best two-way players in the state. Hendricks is a UCF commit. The backcourt features two stellar guards in 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"] and [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"]. The pair have combined to average 27 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Allen is a five-star guard and recently committed to LSU. Cherenfant is a four-star guard with offers from multiple D-1 programs. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"] is averaging 10.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. The 6-foot-8 forward is a Michigan commit. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829386" first="Brenen" last="Lorient"] is averaging 8.6 points and 5.5 boards per game. The 6-foot-8 forward is committed to Florida Atlantic. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065427" first="Tyler" last="Hendricks"] (UCF commit) is averaging seven points per game. No. 8 seed Hallandale will look to take down one the top team's in Florida. The Chargers are 18-9 overall. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709231" first="Anthony" last="Floyd"] (15.6 ppg) leads the way. The 5-foot-9 point guard is also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per contest. 2022 Issac Harney has made a team-best 47 3-pointers while averaging 12.8 points per game.

How about No. 4 seed Killian facing No. 5 seed North Broward Prep. The Cougars (16-8) are led by 2022 Jerome Wallace (12.7 ppg/11.8 rpg). The 6-foot-6 Wallace is shooting 53 percent from the floor. Fellow 2022 Gabriel Chung is averaging 12.3 points while shooting 46 percent from the field. 2022’s James Morman and Alex Mocha each average over nine points per contest. 2023 Jermaine Roper is shooting 46 percent (46-of-100) from deep. The Eagles are 26-2 under head coach Casey Wohlleb. 6-foot-8 wing [player_tooltip player_id="1060261" first="Guilherme" last="Tesch"] is averaging a team-best 15.9 points per game. Tesch can put the ball on the floor and has range (39 3pm). His offensive output can really make North Broward Prep dangerous. Appalachian State commit [player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"] is averaging a team-best 10.5 rebounds and three blocks per game. The 6-foot-9 forward is efficient offensively with his back to the basket (15.2 ppg). 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065431" first="Michael" last="Kalina"] has been a great addition after transferring from Boca Raton. The 6-foot-1 point guard is averaging 10.8 points, 4.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. Kalina is athletic and has great vision off the dribble. Watch out for 2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="955571" first="Adren" last="Roberts"] and [player_tooltip player_id="829406" first="Maximus" last="Fuentes"] as well. Both players can shoot and provide length on defense.

No. 2 seed Mater Lakes Academy will face No. 7 seed St. Brendan. The Lions (20-7) and won six in a row. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055719" first="Christian" last="Reid"] is averaging a team-best 15.7 points and eleven rebounds per game. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301710" first="Anthony" last="Knowles"] is just behind with 13.5 points and team-best 4.9 assists per game. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709221" first="Michael" last="Bradley"] has made 48 3-pointers. Mater Lakes Academy is an up and coming team, regardless of what happens from here on out. The Sabres out of Miami are 22-6 overall. 2023’s Jonathan Diaz and Ivan Navarro each average over 12 points per game.

No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons will face No. 6 University School. The Chiefs (19-6) beat the Sharks in the 4A-14 District Final. 2022 Daniel Jordan is an engine at guard for Cardinal Gibbons. The 5-foot-8 Jordan is a strong leader and plays excellent defense. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055708" first="Casey" last="Etienne"] Jr. is a lightning quick guard with strong ball skill. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1376292" first="CALEB" last="ALCINEUS"] (6’5) is versatile with length and athleticism on both ends of the floor. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301716" first="Marcus" last="Perrier"] looks to have a bright future. U-School (18-10) has a really nice player in Chanon Frye. The 6-foot-5 forward is averaging 11 points per game and has a soft touch from all three levels. Frye has made 33 3-pointers on the season. He can also rebound and move well in transition.[player_tooltip player_id="546183" first="Jabral" last="Ray"] (38 3pm) and Navon Shabazz (37 3pm) can also shoot. 2022 Kailon Nichols is averaging a team-best four assists per game. I also like 2022 Andruw Rondon as a rim protector. The 6-foot-8 forward can adequately rebound and score around the basket.
