We are rounding into crunch time in the season, with playoff time right around the corner. This year features a ton of parity, with teams fighting for their playoff lives. Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games, however, it’s usually the little details that decide championships. Several teams will be depending on key players to become stars in their roles. In our midweek report, we break down some key role players for 3A championship contenders.

[player_tooltip player_id="985614" first="Isaiah" last="Dahl"] 6’3 SG Elko 2022 (#29PHN 2022) - Elko has its sites set squarely on the 3A crown. They will need Dahl to be at his best toward the end of his career. Their offensive production relies heavily on superstar forward [player_tooltip player_id="859645" first="Michael" last="Klekas"]. Dahl will be responsible to use his shooting to keep defenses from keying on Klekas.

[player_tooltip player_id="985619" first="Dawson" last="Dumas"] 6’1 SG Elko 2022 (#57PHN 2022) - You can almost copy verbatim what was said about Dahl, and apply it to Dumas. He’s another key floor spacer for the Indians. Dumas got himself on the rankings two years ago, with a hot shooting playoff run. Elko has suffered two heartbreaking Championship game losses, they’ll need Dumas’ and his shooting stroke if they are going to finally be able to get over the hum and capture a 3A Championship this year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1379108" first="Bruce" last="Woodbury"] 5’9 PG Boulder City 2023 - Got a chance to watch Woodbury this week. The gritty PG played big-time on-ball defense and was fearless down the stretch. Boulder City is a deep talented team, but with [player_tooltip player_id="1281000" first="Hayden" last="Sullivan"] out, they will need Woodbury’s ballhandling and offensive IQ, to operate their system.

[player_tooltip player_id="1377946" first="Daniel" last="Nevil"] 5’10 PG SLAM 2023 (featured image) - SLAM has had a remarkable season, and at times Nevil has been their best player. The power guard will have to be at his best in order for the Bulls to survive and advance. He may just be up to it. Nevil is a tough shot maker, with good wiggle, and the ability to create shots for himself off the bounce.

[player_tooltip player_id="1344252" first="Christin" last="Haylock"] 6’1 SG Somerset Academy Lossee 2024 - At times Haylock can be a scoring machine for the Lions. Losee gets a lot of its offense from its defense, however, having a player like Haylock who can shoot it and create for himself is only going to help. If the Lions are to hang a banner, he is going to need at least one big scoring game during the playoffs in my opinion.

Ben Jolly SF Moapa Valley 2022 - Moapa is a contender, and their ceiling will depend on Jolly’s ability to take some of the scoring load off leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id="1130739" first="Peyton" last="Neilson"] and leading rebounder [player_tooltip player_id="1130740" first="Dustin" last="Gordon"]. Jolly is currently averaging over 9ppg to go along with nearly 5 boards. He will need to continue that solid production if the Pirates are to make a run.
