3A District 6 was a gauntlet for anyone to go through. They have proven their depth by getting four teams into the regional playoff game. Here’s how their top prospects performed.

Calvary

[player_tooltip player_id="1055592" first="Daniel" last="MacGregor"]’s combination of toughness and IQ makes him one of the best sophomore guards I’ve seen this season. He’s an engine for an offense that plays a great team offense. His ability to make shots off the dribble in the teeth of the defense, get to the rim, and control possessions makes him a true floor general. He gets it done on the defensive end where the toughness mentioned earlier turns 50/50 balls in his favor. He’s a quick stocky guard that keeps his man in front of him and fights when switch on to bigger players.

Canaan Bennett stole the show with his shooting. The 6’4 junior connected on 6 threes, showcasing his shotmaking. Bennet has great footwork running off screens, is ready to catch and shoot, and always seems to be on balance. With the same shooting efficiency he had from three, he shot from the elbow.

Though [player_tooltip player_id="829492" first="Trevor" last="Parks"] didn’t put up numbers like we’ve become accustomed to the things that made HIMS college basketball prospect. Parks gets his shot off in a flash. He made several three pointers over closeouts. The Coast Guard Academy commit fights on the defensive end, can create for himself, and finish against size in the paint.

Admiral Farragut

Eric Ahlres lead all scorers with 30 points. He’s a known shooter with the ability to bury you off the catch and run off screens. Ahlers went 8 of 12 behind the three point line. At 6’5, the senior’s size helps him make the occasional play on the defensive end and the boards. He currently has several D3 schools vying for his services, including Utica University.

[player_tooltip player_id="956771" first="Kamrin" last="Oriol"] was the engine that powered an offense to 67 points. He pushed the pace early, converted steals to transition buckets, and penetrated the paint for kick outs. What stood out the most is how well Oriel created offense for himself. The unsigned senior got to the rim in the halfcourt, scored off stepbacks, and shot well from deep, including a 4 point play out of the pick and roll.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065414" first="Ebenezer" last="Ogoh"] is an important part of this team. The 6’10 big swallows up defensive boards, blocks shots, and is a strong roller to the basket. He was able to draw fouls when going strong to the basket and showing patience on the block. When he gets to the next level, improving his conditioning will unlock his potential.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="962434" first="Jaylyn" last="Kennedy"] showed up in big minutes. He proved he can drive and kick to hit his shooters collecting 3 assists as an off guard. On the defensive end, his job was to run [player_tooltip player_id="829492" first="Trevor" last="Parks"] and keep him well under his season average. He’s a well-built guard with the speed to take scores coast to coast. I’m looking forward to what he does next season with his seniors moving on to the next level.

Berkeley Prep

[player_tooltip player_id="814906" first="CJ" last="Hawkins"], the Stanford football commit, was dominant on the block. His burly physical 26 points came from finishes at the rim and the mid-post. Hawkins is also a high level rebounder on both ends.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295928" first="George" last="Kimble"] showed the athletic burst that’s earned him buzz as a prospect. His speed out of the pick and roll allows him to get downhill to draw fouls and find the roll man. He can split defenses where his handle and instincts kick in. Where I think his true calling card can be is the defensive end. His muscular physique and quick feet allow him to stay in front of his man and force them to change direction.

Northside Christian

[player_tooltip player_id="962392" first="Tobias" last="Gunter"] had 10 of the toughest points in the entire game. He finished with physicality when getting to the rim and scored out of post ups with a soft turnaround jumper. Gunter is above average athlete with plus length that takes charges against bigger guys and collects deflections in passing lanes. The Junior also showed the ability to find guys in the dunker spot off the drive.

Two things stand out every time I watch Skylar Scull play: his ability to read the floor and probe a defense. Scull makes plays by manipulating defense and creating space for pull up jumpers. He was a perfect 7 for 7 from the line and scored off screens.
