The When Sides Collide Shootout was this past weekend with a loaded field of prospects. Time to start breaking them down in our scouting reports. Here is When Sides Collide: Evaluations Pt 1!

[player_tooltip player_id="925183" first="Braden" last="Huff"] (Glenbard West - Gonzaga)

Maybe one of the better performances I’ve seen from Huff. The big man started out the game with two big dunks and didn’t slow down from there. Braden scored from all three levels. In the post he showed great footwork and touch around the rim. On the perimeter he seemed to have his hands and feet ready for catch and shoot situations. The future Zag finished with 31 points and 7 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="996060" first="Caden" last="Pierce"] (Glenbard West – Princeton)

Pierce is another player who just played out of his mind on Saturday. The continuous motor and efficiency Caden displayed made his commitment to Princeton seem like a steal. He read the defense well and took high percentage shots off reverse pivots and up and under finishes. Pierce made two really athletic dunks when running in transition that got his teammates and cheering section going wild. He ended with 25 points and 5 steals going 8-9 on from the field.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210370" first="Jackson" last="Munro"] (New Trier - Dartmouth)

Munro played very well in his team’s blowout victory over Yorkville Christian. He was another player who used his obvious size mismatch to have a very efficient day. Jackson put smaller defenders on his back and scored over them often when he got touches. Munro has good hands and feel in the paint which led him to score 26 points and lead his team to a win.

[player_tooltip player_id="863598" first="Bobby" last="Durkin"] (Glenbard West)

It wasn’t the typical shooting show from Durkin that we have grown to expect from him, but he was still effective. Bobby spent most of his time handling the ball against the Whitney Young man full court pressure taking most of his shots when the ball was reversed back to him. He scored off backdoor cuts and hit a big three at the start of the second half. It was good to see Durkin do more than patrol the three point line for shots looking like his game is starting to open up more. He had 11 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="925224" first="Nick" last="Martinelli"] (Glenbrook South - Elon)

Still one of the most difficult players to guard in the state of Illinois showed again why Elon has a complete steal with him. Nick play maybe the best first quarter of anyone in the event. Scoring in the paint and from the perimeter. He sees how the defense is guarding him and he makes the adjustments on the fly. Martinelli uses flip shots and unorthodox footwork when around the rim. Nick also made a pair of threes in the first half. The second half he was a focal point of Simeon defense and it limited him to 3 points the whole half. He finished with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

RJ Davis (Glenbrook South)

The junior Davis showed his confidence early on knocking down two big three pointers in of the schools biggest games. RJ has improved a lot since the first contest this season. If it wasn’t for a hustle play that sent him in stands that would sit him the rest of the game who know what else Davis could have contributed to this exciting game.

[player_tooltip player_id="925190" first="Cooper" last="Noard"] (Glenbrook South)

Cooper didn’t have his best showing but he made big plays when his team needed him. Cooper was stifled in the first half being face guarded by Simeon’s [player_tooltip player_id="925193" first="Avyion" last="Morris"]. By the second half he found ways to get open off designed plays. He finished with 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210377" first="Karlo" last="Colak"] (New Trier)

Karlo had a breakout performance in the first game. He was making shots from all over the court. He knocked down two threes then got a couple of runners in the lane to start. As his teams lead grew Colak confidence did as well. A strong drive baseline for a reverse finish was the icing on the cake. Karlo is an unsigned senior who can make some noise at a small school next season. He had 19 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1215287" first="Jake" last="Fiegen"] (New Trier)

Coming into this game I thought for sure we would have a contest between the top two shooters in the state. But that never formulated. Jake had a rare off night but still found a way to make some things happen.

[player_tooltip player_id="863582" first="Jaden" last="Schutt"] (Yorkville Christian - Duke)

Jaden had one bright spot on Saturday and that was when he reached the 2,000 point mark in high school. After that Schutt had a rough game. He managed to score some points but took many shots in the process. At times his shot looked flat and on occasion he air balled a couple. Schutt is such an elite in-state talent that even on a bad shooting night he can score 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1257899" first="Tyler" last="Burrows"] (Yorkville Christian)

Burrows had a strong showing. Played very aggressive in the open court. Made several acrobatic plays at the rim. Tyler finished with 11 points and 3 steals.
