Week 9 Top Guards

2022 6-2 CG Junior Barber – LaFayette

After a quiet first three quarters, Junior Barber tossed in his Robin outfit and broke out his Batman cape, coming to save the day with 19 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to push LaFayette past LFO. Barber is an athletic guard that creates off the dribble. He showed moxie with his confident pull-up threes and ball skills when slicing his way to the rim. Barber is an important rebounder for the Ramblers, collecting 10 boards on the night. Barber has tools to work with. He could play his way onto small school radars this season.

2023 6-3 SG [player_tooltip player_id="873081" first="Brent" last="Bowman"] – Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe

What [player_tooltip player_id="873081" first="Brent" last="Bowman"] did in the third quarter was special. His 16-point outburst included five straight makes to open the half, all contested jumpers. He hit three mid-range pull-ups and two threes. Bowman has great footwork and an elite jump shot. He’s balanced when driving the ball and stops on a dime when he gets to his sweet spot at the elbow. Bowman is patient once he plants his foot and will use fakes and jabs to get the right opening. His isolation offense is as good as it gets on the perimeter. He finished with 34 points and 5 rebounds. UMKC has already offered. Expect more D-I bids to pour in if he can play anywhere close to how he did on Tuesday.

2023 6-2 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1123934" first="Jamichael" last="Davis"] – Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe

A tremendous athlete with a high motor, [player_tooltip player_id="1123934" first="Jamichael" last="Davis"] is quickly rising up recruiting boards. With an Auburn offer in hand, still not enough people yet know about Davis. He scored his 1,000th point against LaFayette, finishing with 27 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals and 1 block. Davis is electrifying in transition, able to grab rebounds and streak the length of the floor for gliding layups or thunderous dunks. He’s at his best when slashing to the rim but Davis has also added a respectable three-point jumper to his arsenal. Davis has High Major athleticism and his game is quickly reaching the same point.

2022 5-11 G Travion Jackson – Manchester

Trae Jackson is a muscle-packed explosive point guard that has a quick first step downhill. Jackson has the strength to finish through contact but also the touch to pull-up from the mid-range. Trae does a good job of working the in between game, stopping short for 8-footers before getting swallowed up by the defense. His speed, activity and on-ball pressure in the press makes handling the ball for the opponents an unpleasant experience. Jackson had 19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in a 75-42 romp of Chattahoochee County.

2025 6-0 PG Josh Dixon – North Cobb Christian

After a two-point first half, the dynamic freshman hunted his offense, pouring in 16 points and 3 assists. Dixon got hot with his jumper. He would push the ball in transition and pull-up while defenders were still retreating. Dixon was dangerous as a driver, drawing fouls and kissing floaters off the glass from tough angles.

2024 5-11 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1227101" first="D’marion" last="Floyd"] – Darlington

[player_tooltip player_id="1227101" first="D’marion" last="Floyd"] provided a major lift off the bench with his athleticism and energy. The sophomore was able to break his man down off the dribble and get to the rim where he elevated to score over the Eagle rim protectors. Floyd got to the rim consistently when the Tigers cleared out and let him go to work. He has a quick second leap which helped him clean up any initial misses. Floyd made an impact with his defense, coming over to block shots. His vision at point guard has improved from freshman year. Floyd finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

2022 6-4 G [player_tooltip player_id="1199604" first="Patrick" last="Shelley"] – Darlington

When the Tigers needed late offense, they turned to [player_tooltip player_id="1199604" first="Patrick" last="Shelley"]. The big guard puts his head down and gets to the rim. He’s an explosive athlete that can take bumps and still get to the hoop. He showed some finesse with a floater and a pull-up in the first quarter. When Shelley wasn’t able to pour in the points, he was effective with his floor game, helping rebound and facilitate. With his size and athleticism, Shelley is a sturdy defender that can guard 1-5 at the high school level. Shelley tallied 15 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
