We have new #1 teams in Class 2A and 3A this week while Chesterton is the first 4A team to hold the top spot for more than a week in quite a while. Class 1A
Gary 21st Century lost on Saturday at Hammond Central, but with Barr-Reeve not playing and North Daviess not really being tested it was hard to see punishing the Cougars for a loss to a good 4A school. Much of the poll remained the same with the exception of Evansville Christian starting to move up to the #8 spot.

Class 2A
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not sure that Monroe Central is the best Class 2A team in the state. Having seen them play along with Linton-Stockton, Central Noble, and Fort Wayne Blackhawk it would be hard to pick the Golden Bears in a head-to-head matchup with those teams. However, when you just keep winning you deserve the #1 spot. After Blackhawk’s loss at Bishop Dwenger on Tuesday it opened the door for Monroe Central. That February 11th matchup with Wapahani will be one to circle the calendar.

Class 3A
Dropping Mishawaka Marian all the way to #6 from #1 when all they did was lose to undefeated John Glenn was probably the most difficult decision of the week. However, that just shows how competitive the top of Class 3A is this season. NorthWood made the jump to #1 with their impressive 70-51 win against Warsaw.

Class 4A
For the first time in several weeks, the Class 4A #1 spot remained in the same hands for two weeks in a row as Chesterton stayed unbeaten. There was some shakeup with Arsenal Tech losing to Cathedral in the Indianapolis City Championship and teams like Zionsville and Westfield struggling without their star players. Meanwhile, Mount Vernon (Fortville) just won’t stop winning basketball games and now has risen to #6 in the polls.
