Connor Millikan Connor Millikan 6'1" | CG Platteview | 2023 State NE | 6’1 G | Platteview/OSA 3SSB 16U
The junior guard is picking up where he left off last season. With the help of Millikan’s stellar offensive play, the Trojans are off to a 7-1 start. The 6’1 guard is averaging 25.5 points per game shooting 43% from the field. That’s is down 1 point from his average last season but still, just the start to this season so has plenty of time to pour more points in. At this point in the season, he is shooting 31% from the arc which is below his average from last season but on pace to pass his total 3 pointers in the season. Although his percentages are down this early in the season he is still taking good shots and getting to the free-throw line, shooting 77% so far. I expect the junior number to increase as the season goes on, he’s already comfortable taking and making shots now just time to tie it all together.
Luke Ladwig Luke Ladwig 5'11" | SG Blair | 2022 State NE | 5’11 G | Blair/OSA 17U NATIONAL BECK
Luke now a senior has taken a big leap this season in his scoring output and the Bears are benefiting as they are 6-3 on the season. The senior guard is averaging 17.8 points per game this season. An increase of 7.0 points per game from last season. The guard has taken strides in improving all aspects of his game increasing his 3 pt percentage this year now averaging 38% from the arc while attempting an average of 8 3s per game. Where the senior really took a giant step is in his free throws, this season not leaving any free points at the line he is averaging 84% from the line which is up from 71% last season. Can explain the point per game increase as he is taken advantage of the freebies from the line. The senior has already proven to be a lethal shooter from the arc and will get better as the season goes on, look for him to be amongst the best “shooting” guards by the end of the season.
Austin Holtz Austin Holtz 5'10" | CG Bennington | 2022 State NE | 5’10 G | Bennington/POWERHOUSE HOOPS 17U SKIERKA
Another shooter on this list who has been lighting it up from the arc this season. Austin’s offense production is up from last season in all categories. So far this season the senior guard is averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 41% from the field. The smooth quick-release shooter is shooting 39% from the arc so far this season which is up from last season, and shooting 80% from the free-throw line only missing 4 free throws so far this season. He had a few games where he’s gone off from the arc hitting 5 3pts in one game something he’s done on a regular basis last season so look forward to seeing more games from him. As there is not much more need for improvement on the offensive end for this senior I expect to see a lot more scoring and high 3pt made games from Austin the rest of the season.
Kuon Kuon Kuon Kuon 6'8" | SF Mount Michael | 2022 State NE | 6’8 F | Elkhorn Mount Michael/Iowa Barnstormers 17U Black
The 6’8 senior has been dominating in the paint this season and his numbers have been showing. The game has been slowing down for the senior and because of that, it is coming easier for him with shot IQ and patience. This season so far Kuon is averaging 16.0 points per game for the Knights. That is a huge increase from last season which he averaged only 7.7 points per game. The senior is a hustle scorer, scoring rebounds, fast breaks, and easy close-to-basket shots using his size to tower over smaller defenders. Shooting 51% from the field most of his shots are from inside the arc, but is a capable shooter from the arc. Shooting is the same percentage from the free-throw line as last season, I want the senior forward to knock down more freebies from the line which would expand his game as defenders would think twice fouling him. Overall the senior is poise to have a nice season from his numbers he looks like he is very coachable which has been translating on the court and will see if keeps going the rest of the season.
Jacob Czapla | 6’1 G | Blair/NA
The second player from Blair on this shows that theirs plenty of offense to go around for the whole team. Although he is second on his team in scoring he is still top 5 in Class B, which is saying a lot when being the second option. The senior guard is a sharpshooter shooting 47% from the arc he shows that he is not to be left open or the defense is going to pay. Czapla is averaging 14.9 points per game this season which is a huge increase from 5 points last season. The scoring increase has helped the Bears to a 6-3 season and put them in a position to make a serious run coming state tourney time. Although he is a sharpshooter that you can’t give an inch of breathing room, I would like to see him shoot better from the free-throw line. Shooting 64% this season so far is an increase from last season’s 60%, but a great shooter like he is should shoot at 70% and up. Thus still have a lot of basketball left this season so plenty of time to up that percentage.
