On Monday December 27th I attended the annual McClintock Shootout in Tempe, AZ.

This prestigious event has been going on for 30+ years.

Most of the 16 participants will be in the playoffs. I viewed 12 of the 16 teams as I watched the first six early games.

Here were some of the standout forwards on Day-1:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="934598" first="Jaylen" last="Wesley"] McClintock

A powerful forward who can hit the catch-3. He recorded six dunks on the break including one windmill surprising the crowd. He seemed to be everywhere on defense. He was collecting steals and grabbing rebounds with his high motor and strength plus blocking shots in area.

[player_tooltip player_id="827031" first="Brady" last="Reynolds"] Basha

A strong low post scorer. He understands how to use his body and girth to gain position and score. He can score with either hand and does it very efficiently.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="1009139" first="Erenzo" last="Scroggins"] McClintock (Pictured)

One of the strongest wing forwards in the class is like a freight train coming down the lane. He dunks the ball way above the rim on the break. He is a very good passer for his position and his body control in the lane is next level stuff. He is working on his pull-up off the dribble.

[player_tooltip player_id="1120889" first="Torin" last="Bosch"] Basha

A natural slasher to the cup can find his teammates to facilitate. He can get downhill with a euro step and uses the floater. He can make a catch-3 and defends multiple positions for the Bears.

[player_tooltip player_id="936910" first="Jordan" last="Kuac"] Ironwood

A high motored forward who blocks shots, runs the court, rim runs, grabs out of area rebounds and will defend inside and out. His head is literally above the rim on the break on rebounds plus he blocks shots from the weak side.

[player_tooltip player_id="936905" first="Julius" last="Williams"] Ironwood

A powerful forward is a strong rebounder and low post defender. He holds his ground well in the paint with his strong base and girth. Offensively, he can rip through and score through contact plus hit the 3.

2024

[player_tooltip player_id="1064158" first="Christian" last="Warren"] Basha

A talented forward can hit the catch-3 and smartly moves without the ball. He is a confident shooter when in rhythm. He can make difficult contested shots in the lane with his long arms and he has some athleticism. His shooting and defense will make him a 3 and D long term prospect. (He scored on an and-1 with seconds left but the ref called it a charge in a one point game.)
