On Monday December 27th I attended the annual McClintock Shootout in Tempe, AZ.

This prestigious event has been going on for 30+ years.

Most of the 16 participants will be in the playoffs. I viewed 12 of the 16 teams as I watched the first six early games.

Here were some of the standout newcomers on Day-1:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="1354939" first="Logan" last="Hopkins"] Mountain Ridge (Pictured)

A scoring guard with a lot of skill who can score it from all 3 levels. He has a nice pull-up off the dribble and his catch-3pt shot is very consistent. He can drive the lane with a euro and finish through contact. He plays with a high IQ and toughness on defense. He has improved a little every year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1354940" first="Mason" last="Blankenship"] Basha

One of the big revelations of the program is Mason. He has improved dramatically in the last year or so. He scores it many ways from the pull-up off the dribble, floater, 3pt shot off the catch and he is tough enough to sneak into the lane using his handle and strength. His catch-3 has become a weapon for the Bears.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="1354946" first="Shakur" last="Davis"] McClintock

A catch shooter with some length. He has a stronger frame and a pretty looking stroke. He brings good energy to the court and he missed last year due to opting out because of COVID. He is one of those players who should breakout next year when PJ Volz graduates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1354947" first="Jeremiah" last="Hinds"] Saguaro

A quick ball handler can break the press on his own. He is a next level passer to find teammates. He can make a jump stop and score and has a floater game plus pull-up. He can drive and kick to a shooter and is a pest on the ball defensively. His first step allows him to get passed his defender and make passes to teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1354948" first="Anders" last="Mazick"] Saguaro

A spot up shooter with a stronger frame who can rip through and score it through contact. He plays the game with a high IQ and rarely takes bad shots. He will be a steady performer for the Sabercats all year.

2025

[player_tooltip player_id="1354953" first="I’yar" last="Shadowvine"] Ironwood

A talented freshman guard who already gets good minutes on varsity. He is a quick undersized scoring PG with the ball on a string. He can rise up and elevate to shoot it from mid to the 3pt line. He is quick on the ball defensively with his plus lateral quickness.
