There are so many talented wings in North Carolina in every High School class. This article familiarizes you with a few wings in the State that are going to have impactful finishes as the season progresses into playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id="848077" first="Karon" last="Boyd"] (6’5" Small Forward) Cannon High (2022)

Boyd is a strong slasher that can use his defense to create offensive opportunities for his team. Boyd possesses a soft touch and has the wherewithal to pass out of difficult spots on the court. Boyd will become an even more effective player when he learns how to use his strength, not only to score downhill but establishing his back to the basket against smaller defenders that he has done briefly this season. As he continues to work on his playmaking, with him being an above-average defender he could become a composed two-way player at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1154560" first="Isaiah" last="Evans"] (6’6" Small Forward) North Meck (2024)

Evans is one of the most exciting wing prospects in the State, there’s a good chance Evans will become an even more dominant player as we get closer to the playoffs. As a sophomore Evans's size and wingspan can make his shot borderline impossible to block for the typical defender. He has the potential to become an elite defender with his motor and passion on the court. He ignites his team with energy constantly even when he is not involved in the play. A tough loss in overtime against Chambers this past Friday will only ignite Evans until their second meeting on February fourth. Evans had 21 points and five rebounds in the loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="1360343" first="Areon" last="Matthews"] (6’4" Small Forward) Winston Salem Prep (2023)

Matthews is one of the better rebounding small forward’s within the state of North Carolina, averaging almost 14 rebounds a game on the year. Active two-way player, that is averaging three steals and two blocks per game on the season. Matthews's best games of the season are not when he necessarily has a high-scoring total. He had an impressive outing against Bethany High School this past Friday. Scoring 13 points, but impressed with his 17 rebounds and four steals.

[player_tooltip player_id="944960" first="Logan" last="Blair"] (6’5" Small Forward) Harding University High (2022)

Blair is one of the more underappreciated wing players in CMS. He is the leading scorer for the team with 16. He has a really good knack for finding different ways to get to his spots on the court. He is an impressive and patient mid-range shooter. He has the ability to play point forward, having the elite ability to pass out of traffic. Blair plays the passing lanes well, averaging three steals a game. He has solid footwork and has shown his leadership throughout this season for his team as the Rams continue to navigate through conference play.

[player_tooltip player_id="854913" first="Jakel" last="Powell"] (6’6" Small Forward) NCGBBA (2023)

Powell is an underrated prospect in the 2023 class that has a quick release and a fluent jump shooter. Sometimes streaky, Powell is a sniper when he is on fire. Powell has point-forward qualities, he has shown how much of a playmaker can be this season. Possessing above-average athleticism that brings a level of excitement to his team. Powell is a crafty scorer that has a good pace and has found constant ways to score around the rim as well.
