NorthWood Takes Down Warsaw
Coming in at #3 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class 3A polls, NorthWood certainly made a case for the number one spot last night with a 70-51 victory over rival Warsaw. In front of a packed house in Nappanee, junior guard Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN went off for 31 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Panthers to the win and move to 16-1 on the season. Brenner was 7/10 from beyond the arc. NorthWood is playing their best basketball of the season heading into February and appear poised for a deep state tournament run.
Carmel Controls the MIC
This one looked like a route in the first half. Carmel led 18-2, yes 18-2, midway through the second quarter. However, Ben Davis answered with a 7-0 run to make it 18-9 at the break. The Giants would then take their first lead late in the third quarter and held a four point advantage with under a minute left in regulation. At that point it appeared Ben Davis was going to escape with the victory. Peter Suder Peter Suder 6'5" | SG Carmel | 2022 State #227 Nation IN and the Greyhounds had other ideas though.
The Bellarmine commit got a three-point play to cut the deficit to one with about 30 seconds remaining. Spencer White Spencer White 6'5" | SF Carmel | 2023 State IN would later hit two free throws to force overtime. Once again, Ben Davis got up by five points in halftime but Carmel would come back one more time to secure the win. Senior guard Josh Whack hit the deciding free throw 7.7 remaining to move the Greyhounds into sole possession of the MIC at 5-0.
Peter Suder Peter Suder 6'5" | SG Carmel | 2022 State #227 Nation IN led Carmel with 13 and 7 rebounds. For Ben Davis, it was Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN leading the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds as well.
Juniors Surpass 1000-point Milestone
Penn High School junior point guard Markus Burton Markus Burton 5'11" | PG Penn | 2023 State #190 Nation IN continued his fantastic season putting up 31 points in a 76-57 win over South Bend Riley. The Kingsmen are now 12-2 on the season with Burton averaging 26.7 points per game. His big night put him over the 1000-point milestone.
From northern Indiana down to the southern half of the state, Edinburgh High School’s Caleb Dewey Caleb Dewey 6'3" | SF Edinburgh | 2023 State IN also surpassed 1000 career points last evening. Dewey is averaging 23 points per game for the 13-1 Lancers. He went over the milestone mark in a 69-49 win over Morristown.
