A pair of teams who picked up big wins over the weekend at the When Sides Collie Shootout squared off on Thursday night in a rematch of their previous game earlier in the season. New Trier got their revenge on the road to even up the season series against Glenbrook South with a 51-45 victory. Dive into how it went down and our thoughts in 3 Takeaways: New Trier vs Glenbrook South!

New Trier Gets Signature Win on Back of Star Senior

This win moves New Trier to 21-2 on the season. The road W against the Chicagoland areas #2 team is a statement victory and their signature win on their resume heading into March. They had a turnover late and you start to think are they going to have a flashback to the Simeon game at Pontiac. They took care of the ball and hit free throws from there on out. Dartmouth commitment [player_tooltip player_id="1210370" first="Jackson" last="Munro"] was productive as always. The skilled four man is a high level distributor, rebounds well creating second chances, and is so advanced scoring on the block. Such a good feel for sealing off his man for buckets. He can handle it a little and has a solid shot. Went for 20 points. The state’s top shooter [player_tooltip player_id="1215287" first="Jake" last="Fiegen"] got them going early as the 2023 shooting guard hit a trio of threes along with a crisp baseline jumper en route to 13 points. Big night for Josh Kirkpatrick as the 6’2” senior stepped up hitting some key shots early nailing three from distance in a 12 point outing.

Glenbrook South Will Be Just Fine

Despite the home loss Glenbrook South will be just fine at 20-2 overall. They had an off night as neither of their stars played up to their usual production. [player_tooltip player_id="925224" first="Nick" last="Martinelli"] is an Elon commit who is a crafty inside/outside scorer netted 14 points in the paint getting on the glass for put backs and scoring on the block. Didn’t do much from the perimeter. His running mate Cornell commit [player_tooltip player_id="925190" first="Cooper" last="Noard"] was pretty quiet early except for some solid passing. He got hot late with a deep three and a floater. Missed the front end of a 1-1 that kind of ended the contest. He had 11 points. In the early going it was Rodell Davis who was the story for the Titans as the junior had a strong first half connecting on four triples off the catch for 14 points.

State Title Contenders?

Both of these teams can make moves in March. This year outside of Glenbard West everyone has lost. These two are in the mix of about 8 to 10 teams that can beat any team on a given night if they bring their A games. They have the star power up front with versatile forwards (Munro and Martinelli) along with steady guard play with three point pop in (Fiegen and Noard). Don’t be surprised if one of these teams shocks someone in March Madness.
