Here’s my all-tournament team, the stars definitely showed up so everyone on this list is no surprise as they brought it all tournament long.
Tate Odvody Tate Odvody 6'4" | SF Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE | 6’4 F | Omaha Westside/OSA 3SSB16U
Watching Tate there’s no surprise that he is ranked the state’s top junior coming into the season. During the tournament, the junior did nothing but solidify his position as one of the state’s best. My tournament MVP Tate Odvody Tate Odvody 6'4" | SF Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE averaged 18 points per game the tournament, he help lead his team all the way to the championship game of the tournament. During the championship game, Tate turned it up in a good game as he poured in 20 points to help the Warriors bring home their first tournament win since 2002. Tate is one that definitely stood out this tournament is already high in Nebraska State ranking maybe it’s time to start moving up the national ranks.
Josiah Dotzler Josiah Dotzler 6'3" | CG Bellevue West | 2023 State #225 Nation NE | 6’3 G | Bellevue West/OSA 3SSB 16U
Josiah, another junior who lit it up this tournament. Top junior in his class alongside Tate, both young players put a show on this tournament. Although he and the Tbirds came up short in the final game, the junior guard showed he was up for the challenge as he tried everything in his power to keep them in the game. The Bellevue West guard did a bit of everything on their road to the championship game. Averaging 18.5 points per game for the tournament, Josiah poured in some high-scoring games. Going off for 27 points against Omaha Central in Semi-Finals and following it up with 24 points in the final game against Westside. Wasnt only scoring the junior guard dished out a season-high 12 assists against Gretna in Quarter Finals game. Josiah is playing like a leader on the team and not settling for anything as he pressed the defense time and time again as he comes up the court and that is why he is on my All-Tournament team for his attacking mindset but also willingness to give it for a better bucket.
Jasen Green Jasen Green 6'7" | PF Millard North | 2022 State #153 Nation NE | 6’7 F | Millard North/NEBRASKA SUPREME 17U UAA
One of the top players of the state it’s kind of hard to leave him off this list, but he worked hard to be on it. The tournament didn’t go the way the senior might have wanted it too but he did leave it on the court. With a double-double in each of his games this tournament, he’s shown why he is top in the state and gave an argument as to why he should be considered the best in the state. Against Bryan, the senior was able to post 15 points and 10 rebounds as it was a close game for the defending state champs. The next game was another double-double against Papillion-LaVista as he poured in 12 points and 11 rebounds. The semi-finals didn’t turn out how he wanted against westside but still was able to burst from 26 points and 13 rebounds as he tried to his all to get the Mustangs to the championship game but it wasn’t enough. Nevertheless still posted amazing numbers for the tournament so definitely makes the all-tournament team.
Jayden Dawson Jayden Dawson 6'4" | CG Omaha Central | 2022 State NE | 6’4 G | Omaha Central/ NEBRASKA SUPREME 17U UAA
The senior guard went toe to toe with a lot of good guards during the tournament getting the best of many of them. Dawson started off the tournament slow posting only 9 points in the Eagles’ first game of the tournament against Papillion-LaVista but made up for it in other aspects of the game helping this Eagles with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in a revenge win. The Eagles faced a good Creighton Prep team, a matchup that came down to the wire as the game went back forth with Evans and Dawson exchanging back-to-back blows. Dawson would prevail as he drops 22 points to help his team get the win. The next game against the Tbirds prove to be a tougher matchup as was a close game throughout the game. Dawson dropped 20 points and 5 assists but was enough as the Eagles suffer their second loss of the season. The senior guard didn’t go out without a bang and for that, he make my tournament team.
Lam Kuany Lam Kuany 6'6" | C Omaha Bryan | 2022 State NE | 6’6 C | Omaha Bryan/POWERHOUSE HOOPS 17U QUEEN
The 6’6 senior center only played in a couple of games for the tournament, but his presence was definitely felt. Lam coming off a 30 point game before the tournament kicked off, carried that scoring momentum into the first game of the tournament. Against Omaha Northwest, he was able to drop in 25 points with 8 rebounds. Numbers like that are expected from Lam when he plays against players that are not as tall as he is. Playing against the best big man in the state the senior was still able to hold his own as he scored 21 points against Millard North and the top rank forward. The senior center was able to also snag 8 rebounds and a block as the Bears gave the defending champs a scare losing only by 2 points. The big man didn’t back down at the better level of competition, The Mustangs and that is why he made my All-tournament team, because if you can do it against the best in the state that proves something.
Chandler Meeks Chandler Meeks 6'1" | CG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE | 6’2 G | Omaha Westside/NEBRASKA SUPREME 17U UAA
My sixth man position goes to the pose senior from Westside. Kinda hard to not mention Chandler as he was the leader for the Warriors through the whole tournament. The senior was more than just vocal on the court he backed it up with his performance as well, averaging 12.0 points thru out the tournament. Doing whatever needs to be done that night from snagging 5 rebounds in the championship game to help with the tall statues Bellevue West has, then to 5 assists and 4 steals against Benson, the senior does it all for his squad and doesn’t go unnoticed. Where he hangs his hat on and stands alone is on his defense. To me, he is one of the better perimeter defenders in the state which will be a big part for the Warriors if they want to carry this momentum through the rest of the season.
