Week of Dec 3rd: Underclassmen Standouts

<p>The week of December 3rd I viewed four games. Two at Eastmark HS in Mesa, AZ and two at the Phhacility in Phoenix, AZ. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The games I watched this week: (Winners in bold)</p> <p><strong>Eastmark</strong> vs Coolidge (Junior Varsity)</p> <p><strong>Coolidge</strong> vs Eastmark (Varsity)  </p> <p><strong>Phhoenix Prep</strong> vs Overtime Elite Dave Leitao</p> <p><strong>Overtime Elite Tim Fanning </strong>vs Phhoenix Prep Post Grad </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Week notes:</p> <p><strong>Cooldige</strong> showed why they are one of the favorites, if not THE favorite to win it all in <strong>3A.</strong></p> <p><strong>Eastmark</strong> has a ton of talented young players and will be a major factor next year and beyond.  </p> <p><strong>PHH Prep</strong> upset a talented roster of pro prospects, impressing some of the NBA scouts on hand. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Here are some of the Underclassmen Standouts for the week:</p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1150847" first="Carlos" last="Coronado"] Coolidge (Pictured) </b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A rare pure PG has a high IQ with a good feel for the game. He plays at a good pace and is a next level passer. He has a real burst to get passed defenders and will drive and kick it straight into a teammates shooting pocket. He finishes with either hand in the lane and is a capable perimeter shooter. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He scored 12 points with 5+ assists vs Eastmark. </span></p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1193887" first="Rhys" last="Walcott"] Eastmark </b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A gifted scoring combo guard can score from all three levels. He has a nice step back off the dribble from mid to the 3pt line and he can score on runners and floaters. He can advance pass it and is a better passer then he gets credited for with good court vision. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He scored 16 points vs Coolidge. </span></p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1009138" first="Nathan" last="Burrell"] Eastmark</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A natural shooter who is very unselfish. He will give a hard shot fake and drive and kick it. He is a good rebounder who is sneaky athletic to block shots and crash the glass. </span></p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1194200" first="Tim" last="Gorham"] Eastmark</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An athletic wing forward with an impressive floater game with either hand. He is a a smart defender who will collect steals. He is a crafty scorer around the hoop with kind of an unorthodox game. He will score on offensive rebound put backs and his motor was hot all game long. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">He scored 23 points vs Coolidge.   </span></p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1340634" first="Alex" last="Burns"] Eastmark JV </b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A natural combo guard who shoots and is a smart player. He can hold his own as a passer as he can drive off of hesitations and kick. He moves to open spots on the court and will fire away. He has a little wiggle but is best off the catch.  </span></p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1340635" first="Bryce" last="Walcott"] Eastmark JV</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A decent sized wing forward who can drive by and finish inside with some contact. He is best as a 3pt catch shooter and he can rebound the ball and push it up the court. He is a good passer and plays the game with a high IQ. </span></p> <p><b>Jordan Howard PF 6’3 2024 Eastmark</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A power forward with incredible strength. He can get to the rim with a straight line drive and is a capable 3pt shooter. His best trait is his powerful rebounding as he uses his girth and strength bouncing off of defenders and corralling the board off the glass.  </span></p>
