VICTORY CHRISTIAN 65, Lincoln Christian 49
4A No. 5 Victory Christian extended its undefeated streak Tuesday night, improving to 5-0 at home against 3A No. 13 Lincoln Christian. In total, seven players scored in double-figures, but Victory Christian ultimately escaped in a fashionable 65-49 win over the Bulldogs
TURNING POINT
You may not have guessed it by the final score, but Lincoln went into half time with a 1-point lead against the hosting Conquerors. Victory, recent champions of the Jerry O’Quinn Invitational, allowed Noah Reimer Noah Reimer 6'5" | SF Lincoln Christian | 2022 OK , in particular, to an outstanding first-half performance, as he scored from outside-in against a too penetrable Conquerors defense.
With the assistance of strong point guard play from Cainen Mar Cainen Mar 6'2" | SG Lincoln Christian School | 2022 OK , Reimer and the Bulldogs were able to get out to the early lead, much to the chagrin of Ryan Wakley and the Victory defense.
In the second half, however, Joshua Udoumoh Joshua Udoumoh 6'4" | SG Victory Christian | 2022 State OK , Luke Patton and the Conquerors — well, conquered. A series of quick scores, including a pair of consecutive, rim-rattling fast-break dunks by Udoumoh sent the home crowd into a fever pitch and the Conquerors to an 11-point lead against the rival Bulldogs.
Patton, who equaled Udoumoh with 17 points to lead Victory, scored his last bucket of the night in the fourth quarter to extend Victory’s lead to 18 points, the highest margin at any point; Lincoln, tried to cut the deficit, but couldn’t make it much of a game after that.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Udoumoh has not only scored the ball with excellent efficiency to start the season, but his pace of play and passing capabilities have lifted Victory to new heights.
“I think the one thing that allows (scoring) to happen is Josh’s selfishness,” Wakley said.
Even tying Patton to lead Victory in scoring, Udoumoh’s greatest threat was his ability to facilitate, indicative in Victory’s four double-figure scorers on the night.
QUOTABLE
Wakley agreed with the above statement.
“(Josh is) going to attract a lot of attention, and he’s gotta be a willing passer to get those guys some easy buckets. Then, you saw in the second half, it kind of opened things up for him to where he could get some easy buckets, too.”
