<p style="text-align: left;">High School basketball is back and there was some great action in the opening week. Lets take a look back at some of the top performances that some players showcased in week one of the 2021-22 season. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076693" first="Joren" last="Mirabal"]</span>- 6’2 Shooting Guard "Magdalena" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">After finishing last season 2nd in scoring in NM, [player_tooltip player_id="1076693" first="Joren" last="Mirabal"] picked up where he left off in the season opener Tuesday November 23rd at St.Johns. In a 72-36 win, he scored 37 points shooting 11/24 from the field, shot 10/18 from three and 5/7 on his free throws. He also had a nice all around game where he had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Thursday December 2nd vs Legacy Academy, Joren had 30 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists on 10/20 shooting from the field and was 6/8 from the free throw line while leading Magdalena to a 78-26 win to improve to 2-0. This past Friday night December 3rd, [player_tooltip player_id="1076693" first="Joren" last="Mirabal"] had 34 points on 13/20 shooting from the field and was 6/12 from three point range. He also had 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to lead Magdalena to a 83-16 win vs Pine Hill to improve to 3-0 this year. This Saturday night December 4th, Joren scored 29 points vs Reserve to help Magdalena improve to 4-0 this season. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076701" first="Judah" last="Casaus"]</span>- 6’1 Shooting Guard "Del Norte" Class of 2023</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Defending State Champion [player_tooltip player_id="1076701" first="Judah" last="Casaus"] had a great opening week of his 3rd season on varsity. He led Del Norte to win their season opener vs Valencia 75-56. He scored 18 points, 5 rebounds 6 assists and had 5 steals in the game. He also shot a solid 8/16 from the field. This past Thursday night December 2nd, Judah had 24 points and 7 rebounds on the road vs Pojoaque Valley. He shot 7/13 from the field and was 3/5 from three point range. He converted 7/10 free throws to lead Del Norte to a 72-54 win. Saturday December 4th vs Manzano, he had 26 points to lead Del Norte to a 87-55 win to improve to 3-0 this season. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076683" first="Keagan" last="Caton"]</span>- 6’5 Forward "Rio Rancho" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Rio Rancho Forward [player_tooltip player_id="1076683" first="Keagan" last="Caton"] had a few good games to open the 2021-22 season. Monday November 22nd, he scored 23 points shooting 10/22 from the field, had 5 rebounds and 2 blocks at Palo Duro. The next night Tuesday November 23rd, he had 19 points on 6/13 shooting and had 4 rebounds at Amarillo high school.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076669" first="Jalen" last="Goar"]</span>- 6’0 Guard "Hobbs" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Hobbs Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1076669" first="Jalen" last="Goar"] has had a nice start to the season and has had a couple games under his belt. During the season opener Tuesday November 23rd vs Montwood, he scored 28 points shooting 15/27 from the field, 4/9 from three,and picked up 7 steals in a 67-24 win. This past Tuesday November 30th at Gadsden, he scored 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in a blowout 96-49 win to improve Hobbs to 2-1. This past Thursday night December 2nd, [player_tooltip player_id="1076669" first="Jalen" last="Goar"] led Hobbs to a 82-41 victory with his 19 points and 4 assists. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076677" first="Jose" last="Murillo"]</span>- 6’9 Center "Highland" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Highland big man [player_tooltip player_id="1076677" first="Jose" last="Murillo"] had a great season opener vs Sandia and helped lead his Highland Hornets to a 66-63 road win. In his game this past Tuesday night November 30th, he had a double double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in this game. He shot a solid 7/11 from the field and was 5/9 from the free throw line. In his second game this past Thursday night December 2nd, Jose scored 22 points on 9/10 shooting and grabbed 9 rebounds in Highland’s 75-26 win on the road vs Moriarty. </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076724" first="Alexis" last="Dominguez"]</span>- 5’9 Point Guard "Highland" Class of 2023</p>
<p>Highland Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1076724" first="Alexis" last="Dominguez"] played a huge role in Highlands season opener win at Sandia this past Tuesday night November 30th. He was the teams second leading scorer with 16 points while directing the offense with his 5 assists. His play in the game helped Highland defeat Sandia 66-63.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">William Benjamin Jr.</span>- 6’1 Shooting Guard "Las Cruces" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">In a highly anticipated season opener vs Chapin a school from El Paso Texas, William Benjamin Jr. performed great on a big stage against opposing star player KJ Lewis this past Tuesday night November 30th. In this game William scored 24 points on 6/14 shooting from the field and converting 11/13 from the free throw line. He also had 3 rebounds and 3 assists in the Las Cruces win vs Chapin 62-61. </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"]</span>- 6’11 Center "Las Cruces" Class of 2022</p>
<p>Las Cruces big man [player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"] played a huge role in a highly anticipated season opener vs Chapin (a school from El Paso Texas) this past Tuesday night November 30th. [player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"] had a solid game of 17 points while making all his shots from the field shooting 5/5 and converting 7/10 shots from the free throw line. He also had 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the Las Cruces 62-61 win vs Chapin. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076675" first="Jakwon" last="Hill"]</span>- 6’0 Shooting Guard "Volcano Vista" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Volcano Vista Shooting Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1076675" first="Jakwon" last="Hill"] led his team in scoring in their season opener vs Rio Grande. [player_tooltip player_id="1076675" first="Jakwon" last="Hill"] scored 22 points for the Volcano Vista Hawks this past Tuesday Night November 30th. The Hawks defeated the Ravens 74-30 to win their season opener. This past Thursday night December 2nd, he scored 17 points in Volcano Vista’s 102-55 win vs Albuquerque High School. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1208046" first="Harrison" last="Frank"]</span>- 6’2 Shooting Guard "Del Norte" Class of 2023</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Shooting Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1208046" first="Harrison" last="Frank"] had a strong season opener on the road vs Valencia this past Tuesday Night November 30th. He scored 22 points shooting 9/13 from the field, shot 4/6 from three and also grabbed 5 rebounds and 3 assists. His solid play helped Del Norte win their season opener 75-56 vs Valencia. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076692" first="Santiago" last="Rivas"]</span>- 5’9 Guard "Escalante" Class of 2022</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076692" first="Santiago" last="Rivas"] from Escalante High school has had a solid start to his senior season this year so far. In his season opener Wednesday November 24th vs Coronado, he scored 35 points in their 73-48 win. Two days later, Friday November 26th he scored 20 points in the teams win vs Dulce High School 54-48.This past Thursday night December 2nd, Santiago scored 29 points while going a perfect 6/6 from the free throw line which led Escalante to a 68-27 win vs Aztec.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Derek Sanchez </span>- 6’1 Shooting Guard "Pojoaque Valley" Class of 2023</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Shooting Guard Derek Sanchez from Pojoaque Valley had a great season opener on the road vs Gallup high school. He scored a game high 38 points to help lead his school to win 61-59 in their season opener vs Gallup high school. </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1208047" first="Nick" last="Sanchez"]</span>- 5’9 Point Guard "Artesia" Class of 2023</p>
<p>Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1208047" first="Nick" last="Sanchez"] had a solid season opener to begin the season vs Miyamura high school. He scored 23 points to help Artesia win 71-30 vs Miyamura high school. This Saturday night December 4th, [player_tooltip player_id="1208047" first="Nick" last="Sanchez"] had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals vs Rio Rancho High School.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1076706" first="Ely" last="Lovato"]</span>- 6’2 Guard "Sandia" Class of 2023</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Sandia Guard [player_tooltip player_id="1076706" first="Ely" last="Lovato"] had one of the best season opener performances in the state this past Tuesday night November 30th. Despite the loss to Highland high school 66-63, [player_tooltip player_id="1076706" first="Ely" last="Lovato"] had 27 points on 6/13 shooting and went 15/18 from the free throw line. He also had a nice all around stat line of 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists. This past Friday night, [player_tooltip player_id="1076706" first="Ely" last="Lovato"] helped Sandia win their first game of the season vs Mayfield high school. He scored 16 points in their 69-52 win.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">[player_tooltip player_id="1124213" first="Sean" last="Alter"]</span>- 6’8 Center "Volcano Vista" Class of 2023</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This past Thursday night December 2nd, Volcano Vista big man had a solid second game to open up his season. He scored 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to help Volcano Vista defeat Albuquerque High School 102-55 to start this season at 2-0. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Isaac Tapia</span>- Guard "Valley" Class of 2022</p>
<p>This Saturday night December 4th, Isaac Tapia scored 20 points for Valley high school in their 44-42 win at home vs Eldorado high school. His play has helped Valley high school move to an undefeated 3-0 this season so far.</p>
