PHI was at the Team Rose Shootout for the second day on Sunday. It was another fun day of hoops at one of the seasons best events. Check out what we thought in Team Rose Shootout: Sunday Notebook!

Craig Leads Way for Host Mt. Carmel in Victory

The day opened up with host school Mt. Carmel capturing a 61-51 win over Westinghouse. Their 2023 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="989268" first="DeAndre" last="Craig"] was spectacular in the second half. The lead guard has a strong and stocky build with a good basketball IQ. He got hot shooting from deep hitting multiple from distance along with some strong takes off the bounce en route to 20 points. Fellow junior Anthony Ciaravino also hit from distance connecting on four of them for 14 points. His younger brother Angelo Ciaravino is an intriguing long term prospect in the 2024 class with a lanky frame, solid defense, and was a good rebounder. [player_tooltip player_id="1048721" first="Elijah" last="Jointer"] hit the glass hard. The physical 2022 power forward rebounded well on the offensive boards and hit a baseline J for 20 points.

Westinghouse was pushed by Joshua West early. The shooting guard is a scrappy utility wing that should find a home at the small college level finishing with 14 points. Couple young prospects caught our attention in 2023 post Kameron McIntyre and 2024 point guard Askia Bullie. McIntyre is a well built four that flashed with some touch in the paint. Bullie is a 2024 point guard with handles and a clean shot netting 14 points.

De La Salle Scores 51-37 Victory Over Farragut

The Meteors picked up a win against Farragut on Sunday afternoon. In the first half it was all about their frontline. Class of 2022 center [player_tooltip player_id="863597" first="Marcellius" last="Cohen"] was a force defensively swatting shots and rebounding. Bouncy 2023 forward [player_tooltip player_id="1113514" first="Evan" last="Jackson"] threw down the most impressive dunk of the day along with draining an array of feathery jumpers for 10 points. Their star guard [player_tooltip player_id="996066" first="Dajuan" last="Bates"] got it going in the second half getting to the rim with slithery takes and playing off his defense for points in the open floor going for 17 points.

A couple of talented young prospects to track on Farragut include 2024 point guard Jonathan Calmese and 2025 power forward Tayvion Gaiter. Neither were super productive, but each has tools that project well.

Henderson Dazzles in Guard Battle for Brother Rice

Brother Rice secured a 55-44 victory over Joliet West in one of the more anticipated games of the day. Their 2023 star point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1048307" first="Ahmad" last="Henderson"] is among the most fun players to watch in the state. Shifty guard that shakes his defenders for floaters and acrobatic layups. Hesitation on drives that he can stop and pop for pull up jumpers. Showed a solid passing feel, but is definitely a smaller score first point guard. Netted 16 points. Nice game from his 2023 running mate [player_tooltip player_id="939074" first="Khalil" last="Ross"]. Angular lefty forward was quick with his moves from 10 feet and in for several and-1s scoring 10 points. Two other 2023s worth monitoring on this team are face up four [player_tooltip player_id="1279766" first="Jayden" last="Watson"] who had 7 points and sharp shooter [player_tooltip player_id="1215297" first="Nick" last="Niego"] going for 6 points.

Joliet West 2025 point guard Jeremiah Fears has to score for his team to contend. The freshman guard forced some contested shots in the first half that didn’t go down. He had a nice early part of the third quarter where he had a one footed step back followed by an and-1 where he created off the dribble for a nifty finish. Went for 7 points. Class of 2024 shooting guard Justus McNair is one of the more notable new names that has caught our attention early this season in the sophomore class. Plus catch and shoot threat with a smooth all-around game for 12 points. Tough guards [player_tooltip player_id="1048319" first="Jayden" last="Martin"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1210431" first="Skylar" last="Crudup"] also mixed in some mid-range shots from their guard spots.

Orr Backcourt Puts on Show in Win Over Tinley Park

First look of the season at Orr and man was their backcourt impressive in a victory. Still waiting for a couple of key transfers to get cleared but they were just fine with their 1-2 punch on Sunday afternoon. Best we have ever seen 2022 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="863608" first="Leontae" last="Lilly"] play. Quick guard drained pull up after pull up from both three and 15 feet. He was automatic along with using his speed beating his opponent down the floor for scores on his way to 26 points. First chance to evaluate [player_tooltip player_id="1048719" first="Cam" last="Lawin"] in a while. The lanky small forward was automatic from three hitting six of them in a 20 point outing. Very nice game for the senior.

For Tinley Park [player_tooltip player_id="863607" first="Nick" last="Harrell"] had a solid outing. The senior did most of his damage in the open floor netting 15 points. Big bodied five-man [player_tooltip player_id="925226" first="Martell" last="Webb"] mauled on the glass as usual and protected the paint while scoring 12 points. [player_tooltip player_id="1279760" first="Amarion" last="Johnson"] is an intriguing power forward with his length defensively and explosiveness in the paint.

Curie’s Front Line Wins Chicago Battle Against Leo

Leo gave Curie everything they could handle in the first half, but Curie pulled away with a strong second half. [player_tooltip player_id="1056104" first="Chikasi" last="Ofoma"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1148119" first="Jeremy" last="Harrington"] are tough as nails power forwards that dominate with their physicality up front. Ofoma is such a gifted rebounder that snatches them with his strong hands in traffic. Runs the floor hard and attacks the rim with force finishing with 23 points. His partner up front is fellow 2023 post Harrington who brought his toughness living at the foul line and on the glass for 14 points. [player_tooltip player_id="1049088" first="Phoenix" last="Bullock"] was solid with his transition scoring and transition scoring netting 13 points.

Leo got a nice game out of Cameron Cleveland with 12 points. He has grown physically since we saw him early in his career. Drained a couple threes and got to the rack for difficult layups. [player_tooltip player_id="1215310" first="Jarrod" last="Gee"] brought the athleticism and quickness on the interior for 8 points. Liked what we saw out of [player_tooltip player_id="1215291" first="Tyler" last="Smith"] early on as the 2023 guard defended very well in the first half while scoring 7 points.

Michelle Clark’s Toughness Helps Close Out Event with Win

In the finale of the event Michelle Clark captured a win over Niles Notre Dame. The Jones brothers carried the way like they usually do. [player_tooltip player_id="863604" first="Mikell" last="Jones"] was a monster attacking the offensive glass and playing straight bully ball on drives right at his opponents for 22 points. [player_tooltip player_id="863603" first="Mikqwon" last="Jones"] drained a couple jumpers and had a nice spin move for 13 points. [player_tooltip player_id="863590" first="Sulaimon" last="Agiste"] is a lanky five man that can protect the rim and threw down a couple of big dunks for 11 points. [player_tooltip player_id="1215314" first="Cordy" last="Johnson"] also provided some perimeter pop with a plethora of threes.

On the Niles Notre Dame side there were a couple nice moments from [player_tooltip player_id="939079" first="Sonny" last="Williams"] in the first half. Slick ball handler that was creative with it in his hands along with hitting a couple threes for 16 points. [player_tooltip player_id="939056" first="Bryce" last="Coleman"] is one of their other highly ranked 2023 prospects. Wing with size that drained several deep twos pulling up with a high release point. [player_tooltip player_id="1285519" first="Stefan" last="Cicic"] is an intriguing 2024 center with a strong build and touch around the hoop. Swatted several shots on the defensive end. Lots of upside!
