Spearfish Spartans Boys Basketball Preview 2021-2022

Head Coach: Erik Skoglund
Asst. Coaches: Josh McGillvrey, Michael Yost, Blake Stevenson, Mason Jensen, Tory Devall

Seniors

[player_tooltip player_id="1130582" first="Peyton" last="Millis"] |6-3 G|

He is returning for his 3rd year of varsity basketball for the maroon and white. Peyton is a standout multi-sport athlete for the Spartan football, basketball, and track teams. Millis will be an outstanding decision-maker when he gets into the paint. He will be a lethal scoring machine from inside and out. Peyton will be leading the charge for the 2021-2022 Spartans Boys Basketball Team.

Trey Wood |6-2 G|

He is a returning major contributor for the Spartans. Trey is an outside 3-point sniper who can also slash it to the rim. Wood will bring valuable senior leadership, outstanding work ethic and high-quality decision-making. Trey will be a valued Spartan upperclassman.

Ty Sieber |6-3 G|

He has continued to work at making himself into a gameday performer for the varsity squad. Ty has increased his shooting range while shooting a high percentage from behind the arc. Sieber’s basketball instincts have helped him compete for the varsity team.

Nick Hamann |6-3 G|

He has overcome a devastating lower leg injury in the spring of 2021. Expect Nick to compete at the highest level this winter. Hamann has a tremendous controlled dribble in the paint against contact and collisions. He does a nice job of scoring in the paint and also at setting up his teammates. Nick’s extended range to the 3-point arc has opened up his game immensely in becoming a valued varsity contributor.

Chase McArthur |6-2 G|

He is a speedy guard who has gained strength and speed this off-season. Chase has the ability to get into opposing guards in the full court while crashing the offensive glass on the other side of the floor for the Spartans.

Kaidon Feyereisen |6-3 F|

He is a stretch-4 shooter for the maroon and white Spartans. Kaidon has excellent floor spacing on the offensive end while having the ability to guard multiple positions in the frontcourt. Kaidon can put the ball on the floor and be a drive and kick guy as well.

Juniors

Antonio Serrano |6-3 G|

He is a returning starter for the Spartans entering his Junior campaign. Antonio uses his ball-handling skills in transition. He is a slashing guard and a serious 3-point scorer when the opportunity arises. Serrano increased his strength and quickness this off-season. Look for Antonio to take the next step forward this season for the Spartans.

Smith Funke |5-10 G|

He is a ball-hawking guard who has an incredible slashing aspect to his driving game. Smith can take contact and collisions on his moves to the rim while scoring it in a variety of ways. Smith is also firing it from behind the arc with increased confidence, strength, and quickness.

[player_tooltip player_id="963815" first="Carter" last="Lyon"] |6-0 G|

He is a taller, stronger, quicker, and more confident player than his sophomore version. Carter is utilizing his extended 3-point range to knock down a highly efficient percentage from behind the arc. He is also a better slasher that can score in the ten-foot zone. Look for Lyon to distribute the ball in the open court and fast-break opportunities for the Spartans on game nights.

Tayte Schatz |5-9 G|

He is a multi-functional guard for the Spartans. Tayte can play all the perimeter positions while driving and dishing to open teammates at the rim or on the wing. Tayte has increased his shooting range to be a valuable option from behind the 3-point arc for the Spartans.

Bridger Niehaus |5-10 G|

He has found his niche as a fly-around guard who can get to the lane to score or dish to open Spartans. Bridger has gained strength and decision-making skills to become a valuable member of the Spartan varsity team.

[player_tooltip player_id="963814" first="Rylan" last="Palmer"] |6’3 G|

He has rehabbed a broken forearm that has kept him sidelined his entire Sophomore season. Rylan has trained hard to be ready for an exciting 2021-2022 season. Rylan is a multi-numbered guard who can play with the ball in his hand or find space and scoring angles without it. Rylan will be a major contributor to the maroon and white this season.

Jack Ammerman |5’9 G|

He is a combo guard who needs little space to shoot his high percentage 3-point shot off. Jack has worked hard on his skills to be able to be labeled a shooter & slasher for the Spartans. Ammerman can use his shiftiness and array of floaters to be a scoring threat in the lane on game nights.

Sophomores

Seth Hamilton |6-0 G|

He is a returning starter from his guard position for the hometown Spartans. Seth is coming off a broken collarbone that occurred 1 week prior to the football season starting. Seth had a very productive summer of increasing strength and quickness while adding high-efficiency 3-point shooting to his dangerous drives to the rim and mid-range pull-up game. Seth will be an every-night asset to the Spartans this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1342102" first="Brayden" last="Delahoyde"] |6-5 F|

He has developed into a varsity contributor with his length, athleticism, and strong drives to the rim. Brayden will be a major defensive performer out front for the Spartans in their multiple full-court sets. Brayden is ready to make the leap to the next performance level, with the sky as the limit for him.

Freshmen

[player_tooltip player_id="1342103" first="Ryan" last="Heinert"] |6-2 G|

He is a second-year varsity member for the Spartans. Ryan has outstanding offensive skills as he can create space to launch from behind the 3-point line while also having the shiftiness to find lanes to the rim. Ryan has worked hard to put himself in the position to help the varsity team on gamedays.

Spartan Schedule

December 10 (home) vs Belle Fourche

December 11 @ Sturgis Brown

December 17 @ Aberdeen Central

December 18 @ Pierre T.F.
