Sandy’s Spiel Showcase: Standout Guards Pt. 2

2022 5-11 PG [player_tooltip player_id="677691" first="Quentin" last="Alterman"] – Galloway

The Galloway offense ran like a well-oiled machine in a 75-51 win over Denmark, large in part due to the ball movement and diverse scoring of [player_tooltip player_id="677691" first="Quentin" last="Alterman"]. Part of a 13-three barrage, Alterman knocked down two long balls and did the rest of his damage on hard drives and smart cuts to the basket. Alterman was able to turn the corner and extend for finishes at the rim to avoid shot blockers. He finished with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal. Other than his court vision and overall high IQ on offense, what really impressed me was Quentin’s quick close outs in the 2-3 zone. He was able to get to the ball right on the catch and never over pursued or got out of position.

2022 5-9 SG Bradley Banner – Galloway

Bradley Banner is a three-point specialist by every sense of the word. He was automatic when he had his feet set, burying five threes. Banner has a quick trigger and deep range. Like everyone in the Galloway offense, Bradley made sharp cuts to the basket and was able to score on scooping layups. He had 17 points and dished out 3 assists. The three-ball is the great equalizer for a Galloway team void of size, making Banner’s floor spacing invaluable.

2022 6-2 PG Major Freeman – Archer

One of many big guards at Archer, Major Freeman is a floor spacer with his outside shot. He is dangerous off the catch and can score from the mid-range. His size may not be as imposing as some other Tigers, but he has the same bite defensively. He tallied 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in a win over Dacula.

2022 6-0 G Carl Anderson – Archer

Carl Anderson is physically strong. He’s a good leaper and can dig out rebounds in a crowd. Anderson is more of a glue guy. He will hit a few shots, grab a few rebounds and make some plays that don’t always show up in the box score. He had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

2023 5-9 G [player_tooltip player_id="1231778" first="Jackson" last="Sousa"] – Dacula

The quick stroke of [player_tooltip player_id="1231778" first="Jackson" last="Sousa"] can change the momentum of games in a flash. He is a dangerous shooter but also has some wiggle when getting into the paint. He finishes with either hand inside. Sousa may never be the go-to option when he plays, but he’s valuable piece that stretches the floor and helps handle the ball. His energy and effort go a long way.
