Henry Pointer was far from being a mystery after a solid junior year, but this season the solid 6-foot-2, 175-pound combo guard is really getting things done for Lebanon. The Warriors have grinded through a rough schedule so far and are undefeated against 5A teams, and a lot of it has to do with Pointer and his play.
“I think we’re off to a good start,” Pointer said. “The first two games we competed a lot better than last season. I feel like my game has gotten a lot better and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Pointer has certainly done his part as the team’s main scoring threat. He’s averaging over 22 points per game with a high of 35 points against Hillsboro. He knew he’d be counted on heavily offensively going into this season and prepared for it by playing with an AAU team out of The PAC in a number of tournaments on the West Coast. “It was a fun experience, my first time doing that full time,” Pointer said. “Playing better competition in the off-season really helped me a lot.”
Pointer is an all-around offensive player who can knock down open jumpers but also create off the dribble and finish around the hoop. He’s good at drawing contact and getting to the line and many of his points this year have been from the charity stripe. Physically, he has a set of shoulders that could easily sustain more weight and muscle as well. Pointer is hoping that a good season will help him achieve his goals of playing in college.
“I’m looking to play at the next level,” Pointer said. “I’m working on just getting there, playing the best basketball that I can.”
As Lebanon moves on with their schedule, things will ease up a bit as they regularly face 5A competition into Mid-Willamette League action. His hopes are high. “I think we can make playoffs,” Pointer said. “We’ll see how it goes.”
Pointer is not currently ranked but will be added in the next update of the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
