With a week full of holiday tournaments beginning tomorrow, Monday, we needed to go ahead and release our Prep Hoops Indiana Class Rankings a day early. Monday, our typical release day, will be dedicated to coverage from the Wabash Valley Shootout. We are now into week six of the basketball season and we are starting to learn more and more about who truly belongs in the Top 10 of their respective classes. Let’s dive on in.
Class 1A
Not a lot of shakeup in the Class 1A polls as several teams didn’t play at all while only Loogootee lost. That loss was to Class 3A Washington so there isn’t much “punishment” to dole out, but the Lions would have been expected to win that game. North Daviess will remain atop this poll until somebody can knock them off. Also, teams like Tindley and Metro will stay in the Top 10 until given a reason to drop them based on the eye test. There are a lot of 1A teams with better records who could not beat compete with them.

Class 2A
The story of Class 2A this past week was Monroe Central. The Golden Bears turned heads all across the state on Thursday as they knocked off previously unbeaten 3A Connersville and then took down 4A Bloomington North. Elsewhere, our top four teams all remained undefeated while South Spencer lost their first game of the season in a double overtime thriller against Evansville Memorial.

Class 3A
I don’t like making grand pronouncements or “fighting” with other people who put out rankings because of their subjective nature. We had Connersville ranked #5 here at Prep Hoops Indiana before their loss this week. While that wasn’t a “good” loss for their resume, we still don’t overreact to one trip up and they still find themselves inside of the Top 10. However, the fact that anyone besides Brebeuf Jesuit would be in the top spot (as they have been in our poll all season) just doesn’t make much sense at this point. If you watch the games they are the best team.

Class 4A
We are starting to feel really good about these Class 4A polls. The top six remained unchanged this week as they all won their games. Fishers continues to build an extremely impressive resume with their win at Homestead followed by a win at Fort Wayne Carroll. Additionally, Ben Davis reappeared in the Top 10 with a huge 85-48 win against Lawrence Central. They have won six straight and are playing as well as anyone in the state.
