The Indians are coached by Jeffrey Berridge, returning this season with a previous record of 14-9, they placed 3rd in C1 District 7. The Packers are coached by Bruce Chubick and recently nominated for the most dominating OPS program the past decade in the Omaha area. Despite having a 4-16 record last season, South High has made some adjustments and looking to have another run at the state title. This game started with a bucket from the Indians breaking the full-court press after that, it would be all South High. The Packers continued to put immense pressure on Winnebago that forced them to cough the ball up time after time. By halftime, Omaha South had established a comfortable lead and wouldn’t look back. Despite being down double digits, the Indians never gave up and continued fighting until the last second. Winnebago got better by the end of the game. There was tons of talent on both sides of the floor. Below are players that played a great game and looked like recruits.
Jacob Martin Jacob Martin 6'0" | PG Millard North | 2023 State NE Omaha South (Combo Guard)
Jacob is a 6’0″ Jr. that can play both guard positions. He brought great energy Saturday night on both ends of the floor. He blew by defenders for lay-ups at the rim using the euro-step, hit a step-back three-pointer off the dribble, and amazed the crowd with a no-look pass to a wide-open teammate for an easy lay-up. He played aggressive defense. Jacob was able to execute his role in the full-court press very well. Looking forward to seeing Martin have an impressive junior year.
T"Andre Perkins Omaha South (Guard/Forward)
Perkins was the player that gave south the “jumpstart” they needed to cruise past their opponent. He did not start the game but was subbed in about 3 minutes into the game. His first interaction was a defensive deflection. In the next play, he swung the ball around and when it came back to him he dribbled right, dribbled behind his back to the left, gathered his steps, and finished strong at the rim. T’Andre is a 6’4″ Guard/Forward that stays very active on each end of the floor. He is an amazing all-around player. He had many highlights in this scrimmage. The first was a big block, pinning the offense’s shot to the glass. Then seconds later running the fast break to end up receiving a pass that ended in a thunderous tomahawk dunk. His jump shot is developing and his grades are stellar, he makes fine student-athlete
Rickey Loftin Rickey Loftin 6'0" | SG Westside | 2024 State NE Omaha South (Combo Guard)
Loftin was very impressive against the Indians. He was very active defensively and accurate on offense. What was most impressive about Rickey was his ability to hit the mid-range jump shot. There were numerous occasions where he broke the defense down, pulled up from the elbow, and knocked down the shot. It looked pretty pure every time. Only a sophomore, yet he plays much more mature and under control.
Dyami Berridge Winnebago Indians (Combo Guard)
Dyami stands 6’1″ tall and plays the game of basketball with great energy. He plays fearlessly. Berridge is a quick combo guard that has a beautiful jump shot. He has solid ball-handling skills and does not get discouraged easily. He plays a team game and plays under control. Very streaky, if he gets hot, it’s lights out.
