Day 1 of the City Of Palms Classic delivered like it does every year. The gym was filled with nationally ranked teams and Florida programs with state title hopes. There are plenty of high major players to focus on but in this article, we’re looking at contributors that don’t have their names on marquees. Here are 12 players you need to get to know after the opening day of one of the nation’s biggest high school basketball tournaments.

Calvary Christian

A tight rotation and a roster laced with high major players make it hard to get to know anyone. That said Michigan Signee [player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"] and 2023 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] had great days. Cherenfant scored on all levels while being the biggest guard on the floor. Glenn’s double double showcased how tenacious he is on the boards. Four of his 10 rebounds came on the offenses, ending in putbacks. He also hit two of his three attempts from deep.

Greensboro

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="577830" first="Graham" last="Worland"] has an old school game. The 6-6 wing uses jab steps to create space that flows into stepbacks. He hit a 3 and made a layup to round out his night. The box score isn’t pretty, but a lot of those misses came at the end of the game when the team tried to cut a deficit.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="1225257" first="Acaden" last="Lewis"] leads his team in scoring with 13 points. Most of his points came in transition, where he showed craft on his layups and shooting from deep. He pulled up from three on the break, then hit two more off the catch in the halfcourt. George Mason, UMBC, VCU, Marquette, Ohio, George Washington, and ECU are all showing interest.

Orlando Christian Prep

2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055785" first="Ameer" last="Ramadan"] is a heady young guard. He played Robin to [player_tooltip player_id="546193" first="AJ" last="Brown"]’s Batman. Ramadan dropped 16 points, hitting floaters from the elbow, drawing contact on layups, and hitting one of three attempts from deep. Ramadan is one to keep an eye on, especially with OCP’s with Brown graduating.

Columbus

[player_tooltip player_id="1301714" first="Cameron" last="Boozer"] does it all for this team. He went a while before putting points on the board, but his rebounding and passing all made an impact. He finished with a 13 point 10 rebound double double with 5 assists and 4 blocks rounding out the stat line. Boozer handles it on the break and finds guys all over the court.

Southwest Florida Christian Academy

Eiram Cuevas looks so smooth with the ball in his hands. He knows how to get to spots and produce from broken plays. This wasn’t the best matchup for the team, so don’t let the box score fool you. The junior has a serious feel for the game.

Charlotte

[player_tooltip player_id="1310825" first="John" last="Gamble"] was incredible today but garnering high major interest from Florida, FSU, and Texas puts him in a different category. We’ll focus on his teammate [player_tooltip player_id="953010" first="DJ" last="Woods"] instead. The two were the only double-digit scorers for Charlotte with Woods chipping in 17. He hit two threes, kept his composure under a shot clock, and scored against one of the best backcourts in the country.

Milton

Seth Fitzgerald gave Milton a two-fold boost. He started the game as an offensive rebounder and putback scorer. In the second half, he turned into a slasher that disregarded contact. He saw the free throw line three times, hitting each attempt.

Whitney Young

Marcus Pigram and Xavier Amos battled for this spot. Pigram missed one shot on the road to 19 points. Amos collected a poster and was a terror around the rim all night. Pigram wins out thanks to his three level scoring and youth. The 2023 guard is earning interest from several mid-major programs, such as Eastern Michigan, Bradley, and Niagara. In total, there are nine schools monitoring the junior.

Gill St. Bernard School

Geancarlo Peguero is a big 6’5 guard. He attacked the glass for 9 rebounds, 7 of which came from the offensive end. Pejuero scored as a slasher, hit shots in the mid-range, and had a block against 6’8 Xavier Amos. The junior currently holds an offer from Seton Hall and interest from Georgetown and St. John’s.
