Blake Burmester of Owatonna (6’1 Junior). Shooters. Colleges need them now more than ever. High school teams gameplan for them now more than ever. They are game changers and they spread the floor. Blake did exactly that opening space for Evan Dushek Evan Dushek 6'8" | C Owatonna | 2022 State MN to score 21 points inside and for Brayden Williams Brayden Williams 6'3" | PG Owatonna | 2022 State MN to attack for seven assists. The space was there because hit four threes on the wing forcing an opposing scramble.
Camden Carter of BSM (5’11 Senior). Minnesota die hard fans and PHM/NHR regulars know the name of Camden Carter but I feel like more should especially after seeing this young man live skin on the floor and all the effort on the court. He led the day in floor dives and his battle is commendable. Let’s not forget that Carter went to the cup and scored four times for a team high dozen points. The type of worker every coach would enjoy having on their team.
Jake Dallman Jake Dallman 6'2" | SF Mound-Westonka | 2022 State MN of Mound-Westonka (6’3 Senior). Not a new name to know but a player I wanted to feature here as I think more need to know the name. Jake had a fantastic all around game handling, rebounding, pushing the ball off of defensive boards, finishing, and moving the ball to cutters and perimeter shooters. It was his pace that did so much for the Whitehawks. When the numbers were there in quick transition, Jake struck. When they weren’t, Jake moved the ball for the wing entries and started the ball movement that more often than not led to a high percentage attempt. Dallman had 14 points, seven boards, and six assists in the win over Central.
Rob Issa of Holy Angels (6’4 Senior). Issa led his team with 18 points and made the most important play of the game when he stole a pass, sent the outlet up, and then putback a miss. He also had the most explosive score of the game running the floor and throwing down a nasty one handed dunk. The most important thing though, after a good game Issa made a mistake and had to go to the bench. When he came back, he came back like a mature talent and made a huge play. A sign of maturity. Issa is an agile wing that will be interesting to watch going forward as he has solid potential.
Keon Moore of South St. Paul (6’2 Senior). Moore plays the five for the Packers and I like the role he plays as the low post battler, the screener, the active rim finisher around the cup. His activity was tough for the opposing five to move with so Moore scored five times for his team. Like how he fits with the Packer group of guards.
Ayden Pfeifer of St. Paul Central (6’2 Senior). I wanted to add Ayden to this list because his role was interesting. He didn’t get on the floor for a bit but once he did he competed so hard for his team. In fact, with 16 seconds left and Mound-Westonka trying to hold the ball, Ayden attacked and earned another steal. Scored nine for the game but it was a respectable nine as he battled hard.
Aiden Smith of Holy Angels (6’3 Senior). Smith’s near double-double against BSM was the perfect example of how a hard working “role guy” can step up and be a major impact player. Defensively Smith was where he needed to be at all times. He led the day in getting 50-50 balls off the glass and on the floor. Smith scored ten points, grabbed nine boards, but mostly importantly he made a lot of tough guy plays that his team needed to get the victory.
Max Swanson of Mound-Westonka (6’7 Senior). Max’s biggest impact in his team’s win over St. Paul Central was his 11 rebounds. He is the player that gave the Hawks a size edge and those 11 rebounds ended a load of possessions. Max also had a couple post moves that caught my eye so you know somebody is working with him to improve that part of his game. A legit 6’7 post.
