Leroy Barnes Leroy Barnes 6'1" | PG Minnehaha | 2023 State MN of Minnehaha Academy (6’2 Guard, 2023). After a bit of a slow start in a big game atmosphere Leroy really gave the state a look at what he can potentially be as a player. It was my first look at Barnes and I was impressed with the way he went at the cup for 15 points plus grabbed six boards. Looking forward to seeing him play more in the future and learning more about his game.
Myles Barnette Myles Barnette 6'2" | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN of Wayzata (6’1 Point Guard, 2023). Barnette belongs in this space once again as he is still hovering in that new name area. It won’t last long. Down the stretch the Trojans had the ball in the hands of Barnette and while the Trojans came up short, it was clear that the future of this junior guard is quite bright. Love his transition push and ability to get deep and make the right play, and finish in high percentage ways. Potential wise he looks like he could take a big jump.
Kayser Hassan Kayser Hassan 6'6" | PF Eastview | 2022 State MN of Eastview (6’6 Forward, 2022). We have talked about Kayser a few times already this fall but he deserves to headline this list. Hassan didn’t play last season. Wasn’t on a roster. Here were are a year later Kayser is the starting forward on a very talented Eastview team. And he’s not just a starter, Hassan is a legit prospect. He plays hard, his lateral agility and effort on defense are high quality, he’s strong so he physically rebounds, and Hassan is so quick off his feet. A legit prospect and standout player.
Derrick Jameson of Maple Grove (6’1 Wing, 2022). Athletics wise Derrick is not a new name to know. Far from it. Jameson was a Mr. Football finalist that totaled 23 touchdowns this year averaging nearly ten yards per carry! The Crimson are a bit beat up injury wise right now but they will be a factor this year. Jameson will be a key part of that with his basket attack. And get this, his exact points per game averaged right now is the same number (9.7) as his yards per carry this season!
Jaheim Houts Jaheim Houts 6'3" | SG Osseo | 2023 MN of Minneapolis South (6’6 Forward, 2023). Houts (his last name was Nuah on the roster) is the starting power forward after his transfer to the Tigers this off-season. Houts collected seven boards for South, he finished the few chances he had to score, and physically he has a chance to be a nice prospect. Defensively as he contninues to learn he can be a game changer.
Zashon Rich of Minneapolis North (6’2 Guard, 2024). There were two sophomores on the floor in that Minnehaha Academy vs Minneapolis North game, the well know Mercy Miller Mercy Miller 6'4" | SG Minnehaha Academy | 2024 VA , and then Zaeshon Rich. I really like the way Rich puts the ball down and goes at the rim. He’s a lefty that plays with good pace and feel, he’s a shifty attack guard that’s on balance while attempting from the opposite hand that the defense is expecting. I like his potential for the future.
Ryan James Jr of DeLaSalle (6’4 Forward, 2024). Kidding. How the hell this name showed up and was introduced as a starter, I will never know. There is no such person. They do have a Ray James Jr and he is number 32.
