We take a look at our preseason preview of the VISAA divisions as the season is right around the corner. We will start with division one, featuring some of the perennial powerhouses throughout the state. Here’s a look at part two of some of the preseason All State candidates.

[player_tooltip player_id="962811" first="Keishawn" last="Pulley"] | 6’2” PG | St. Christopher’s 2022

Pulley has had a steady rate of improvement throughout his high school career and he’ll be a go-to guy for St. Chris this year with a chance to put up big numbers. He’s a versatile scorer with the ability to really shoot it from deep and get hot quickly, he’s. Improved his shift off the bounce and can get to the rim and finish and he has a good feel on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="962815" first="Charlie" last="Jackson"] | 6’6” F | Episcopal 2022

Jackson’s one of the most underrated players in the state and is a very productive forward who has all the capabilities of averaging a double-double this season. He’s a versatile and athletic forward that can play on both the perimeter and in the post, he plays with an incredible motor and rebounds well on both ends of the floor and he’s able to score it from multiple levels in a number of different ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="999617" first="Carter" last="Lang"] | 6’10” C | STAB 2023

When it comes to productive big men in the state there may not be one that does it as consistently as Lang who will be the focal point for STAB on both ends of the floor this year. At 6’10” he’s a big target in the post who can catch and finish over either shoulder well, he plays with a great motor and rebounds in and out of his area very well and he has the ability to stretch the floor as well.

Davin Cosby | 6’4” WG | Benedictine 2023

Cosby is back at Benedictine after a year at John Marshall and he has a chance to be one of the top scorers in the VISAA with his ability to get hot and takeover games. He’s one of the best shooters in the state and is able to make shots from deep off the catch and off the move, and he’s rounded his game out as he’s become a solid ball handler and shot creator off the bounce and he’s an athletic finisher at the rim too.

[player_tooltip player_id="999638" first="Jamie" last="Kaiser"] | 6’5” WF | Bishop Ireton 2023

Kaiser moves to Ireton after his last two seasons at Lake Braddock and the multi-sport star is really starting to see his recruitment pick up on the basketball court and should have a big season at Ireton this year. At 6’5” he has good size on the wing and is a natural athlete who can play above the rim, he’s a knock down shooter from deep with good range and consistency and he can brings it on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="999623" first="Luke" last="Smith"] | 6’7” PF | Collegiate 2023

Smith is set for a breakout season at Collegiate after a year of development and a good summer with DC Premier, and he’s one of the most versatile bigs in the VISAA. The 6’7” forward can play on the perimeter where he’s a good shooter and passer, he can post up and score it with both hands around the basket and he’s able to initiate the offense and play on or off the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="999616" first="DeShawn" last="Harris-Smith"] | 6’5” WF | Paul VI 2023

Harris-Smith is the guy on this list who may not put up huge numbers from a scoring standpoint as there’s other very talented scorers on his team, but he’s going to bring all the energy and be one of the top defenders every time he’s on the floor. He’s a good slasher and excellent finisher in transition and in traffic, he’s a strong and athletic defender who can guard the other team’s best player and he rebounds and makes the hustle plays too.

Steve Solano | 6’10” C | Catholic 2024

Solano is a new name in VA after moving to Catholic from Christ the King in NYC and he’s already looking like one of the top young prospects in the state if not in the country. At 6’10” he’s long and very athletic for a big man as he can run the floor and finish above the rim, he has good touch in the post and out to 15 feet and shoots his free throws well and he’s an elite level shot blocker and rim protector.

[player_tooltip player_id="1259620" first="Darren" last="Harris"] | 6’5” WF | Paul VI 2024

Harris is another very talented young player who is already seeing high level recruitment, and he’ll be a break out player in the WCAC and VISAA this year. He’s an elite level shooter with effortless range and very consistent from deep, he’s able to play and guard multiple positions making him versatile and he has the ability to take over games with his shooting ability and how quickly he can get hot.
