The game was close in the first half with ALA keeping it within ten at the half but the athleticism and strength of RSL were just too much for ALA to handle. Here were a few of the standouts from Game 1:
Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn 6'2" | PG Montverde Academy | 2023 #42 Nation FL (6’3, 2023) – Dravyn showed why he is the top-ranked player in Utah this morning scoring at will from all over the court. He is an uber-athletic guard who got downhill very fast and his athleticism showed with a series of empathic dunks in transition and in the half-court sets.
David Katoa David Katoa 6'4" | CG Layton | 2024 State #255 Nation UT (6’4, 2024) – David Katoa David Katoa 6'4" | CG Layton | 2024 State #255 Nation UT was a defensive stopper matched up on Gibson most of the game. His quick hands and tipped passes allowed for easy buckets on the offensive end. Katoa got to the rim with ease and hit some timely jumpers throughout the game. He was very active without the ball in his hands, which created easy buckets off rebounds, and had a massive two-handed put-back dunk in traffic.
Adam Stewart Adam Stewart 6'11" | C RSL Academy | 2022 State UT (6’11, 2022) – Stewart used his frame extremely well to control the paint, finished well with both hands. Stewart altered shots in the lane and ran well rim to rim. Adam is a very strong big man that controls his area and has very solid fundamentals.
Stephen Osei (6’11, 2024) – Osei will be an up and comer this season, who is still growing into his body. In the broken court Osei ran the floor extremely well and finished above the rim with some monster dunks throughout the game. Look for Osei to be a game-changer for RSL this season.
JJ Apathjang (6’4, 2025) – Another young prospect for RSL that did his job very efficiently was Apathjang. He is a knockdown three-point shooter for RSL that will keep the defense honest on all dribble drives and kick-outs to JJ.
Mason Farr (6’9, 2023) – Farr is a long and lanky forward that was able to extend out to three to knock down shots this game. He finished well shooting over his left shoulder in the paint but will need to continue to develop scoring over his right shoulder throughout the season.
Russell Gibson Russell Gibson 6'2" | CG Eagle | 2024 State ID (6’1, 2024) – Gibson who has been a prolific scorer to start the season had some troubles against stronger guards, but was still able to create his shot and used his craftiness to get to the rim. Look for Gibson to continue to be an efficient scoring point for ALA this coming season.
