TULSA WEBSTER WARRIORS

OVERVIEW

The Warriors have experienced a rebirth in recent seasons, with three appearances in the last four Class 4A State tournament. That was anchored by the standout career of do it all guard Anthony Pritchard. Now Pritchard is playing for the University of Tulsa and their former head coach Scott Bowman has moved up the road to Skiatook. Meaning it's a new era for Daniel Webster basketball, with alum Matt Watson at the helm.

It'll be a tough task for their first time head coach, as along with the graduation of Pritchard they lost most of their key pieces from last year's Class 4A semifinalist squad. Senior Tray Davis, a shooting specialist last season will now carry a much bigger role as the only returning starter. Early scrimmages have brought up and down returns. Even with new faces across the board, there is still a good blend of talent and size for the squad.

QUOTABLE

"We have an inexperienced but hungry group. Because of that we'll be looking to use our size and length to our advantage. As we know our success will be earned, not given!"

NOTABLE

The influx of Marlow and James around Davis gives the Warriors good size for a Class 4A team. Marlow and James come from Owaso and Jenks respectively. Early scrimmages showed both to be versatile players, that could join with Davis to create a flexible starting lineup with inside-outside threats. Sophomore guard Waldon could be the key to unlocking their potential, as he'll be the primary ballhandler but will be learning on the job with his first taste of varsity action.

Come playoff time when the inexperienced group has been through the fires of the regular season; the Warriors could be a sneaky team to make some noise on the long road to the Class 4A state tournament. And the regular season will often be a baptism by fire.

They open on November 18th with Tulsa Memorial. That begins a theme of difficult conference competition, (Central and McLain are fellow TPS 4A squads) but the Warriors will often be clashing with 5A foes. Including their home opener on December 3rd against East Central. A big middle of the season measuring mark will be the Skiatook Invitational. The field there is difficult but success there could represent a spring board for the second half of the season.
