Throughout this month, I will be highlighting selected teams across South Florida. Today, my focus is on Miami Northwestern. The Bulls went 13-5 last season and are led by new head coach Melvin Randall. Assistant head coach Lance Tejada Sr. moves over from Mater Lakes Academy.

Here is the 2021-2022 roster I received.

2022 PG Isreal Smith

2023 PG/SG [player_tooltip player_id="709256" first="Jamai" last="Hager-Tejada"]

2023 SF Frederick Acosta

2023 PF [player_tooltip player_id="829479" first="Dominic" last="Smith"]

2022 SF Camari Austin

2022 PG/SG Brandon Gilgeours

2023 SG [player_tooltip player_id="709247" first="PJ" last="Paulk"]

2023 SF Jaden Lane

2022 SF Terry Glasgow

2022 SG Tyrese Robinson

2023 PF Terrence Kemp

2024 SF Gameto Thomas Jr.

2023 PF Amir Parker

2022 PF SirMalik Muhammad

We know a good amount about [player_tooltip player_id="709256" first="Jamai" last="Hager-Tejada"]. The 5-foot-10 combo guard averaged 18.6 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field for Mater Lakes Academy. Moreover, Hager-Tejada went 30-of-82 (37 percent) from deep. He brings toughness and consistent scoring ability out of the backcourt. Hager-Tejada will attack the basket with any crease. He fits the moxy of Miami-Northwestern.

Brandon Gilgeours played for Randall in his one season at Chaminade-Madonna. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 12.8 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the floor. In addition, he knocked down 46 3-pointers. Gilgeours has good touch and can spread out opposing defenses. He’s a nice offensive add to this team.

Apparently, [player_tooltip player_id="709247" first="PJ" last="Paulk"] is back after playing football for Booker T. Washington. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard brings a ton of power and scoring ability off the dribble. Paulk is relentless and will score tough baskets around the rim. He might be the best overall player on the team.

Camari Austin is a prospect with length and athleticism. The 6-foot-4 forward has a good shot and can extend on the floor. Austin was the Bulls’ leading scorer last season. I like his versatility and mismatch ability on the floor.

Frederick "Freddy" Acosta could be a sleeper as he transferred from New York. Acosta has plenty of size to play guard at 6-foot-5. He could be a well-known name in South Florida in due time. Watch out for 6-foot-4 shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="829479" first="Dominic" last="Smith"] as well.

Bringing in legendary coach Melvin Randall should only help Miami Northwestern. The Bulls have talented pieces at guard and forward to have a great season. I think the additions of Hager-Tejada and Gilgeours give this team an added boost alongside Austin and Paulk. Therefore, the Bulls have a lot of looks and scoring options. Miami Northwestern has performed better over the years and that should only continue under Randall’s pedigree.
