Practice Breakdown: McArthur Mustangs

I stopped by Monday’s practice to watch McArthur High School. The Mustangs are coming off a 10-10 season under head coach Warren Gale. Player notes: [player_tooltip player_id="1310857" first="Amani" last="Drayton"] [player_tooltip player_id="1310857" first="Amani" last="Drayton"] is a 6-foot-5 forward with an extra spring in open space. He had a good summer with Florida Pro and should carry it over this fall. Drayton can use his length and athleticism to slash his way into the paint. He’s one of the best high jumpers in the state. You can tell he has talent right away. [player_tooltip player_id="709262" first="Tyheim" last="Williams"] 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709262" first="Tyheim" last="Williams"] is a transfer from Mater Lakes Academy. "Butter" is a 6-foot-4 forward that should bring frontcourt depth to the floor. Williams has some size to body defenders around the paint. He holds a 3.7 GPA. Johaun Myles I've been a big fan of Myles for quite some time. The 6-foot-4 guard is a crafty playmaker that can score in a variety of ways. I like his awareness in the halfcourt and ability to make the extra pass. He is a lefty with plenty of length to create space. Myles holds an offer from Albany State and has a 3.9 GPA. FAU and other D-1 schools have shown interest. Nate Hickman 2022 Nate Hickman is a transfer from Cooper City where he was a starter and one of their better players. The 6-foot-2 guard impressed me with his ability to knock down perimeter shots while playing tough defense. Hickman holds a 4.5 GPA. Michael Dunning 2022 Michael Dunning is a transfer from Nova High School. The 6-foot-5 forward should provide depth in the frontcourt. Dunning is good rebounder and has upside as a shooter. He holds a 3.0 GPA. Robert Rivera 2022 Robert Rivera is the type of kid any team would love to have. The 5-foot-10 guard is extremely tough as an on-ball defender. Rivera also plays well in the open floor. Jamal Billingsley 2022 Jamal Billingsley is a strong, physical guard. The 6-foot prospect excels in the open floor and attacking the rim. Billingsley was formerly a starter at Nova High School. He holds a 3.7 GPA. Guy Twitty 2023 Guy Twitty is a transfer from North Miami. The 6-foot-4 guard has promise with more work/reps in practice. Twitty is strong and very athletic. [player_tooltip player_id="956791" first="Jayden" last="Roach"] 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="956791" first="Jayden" last="Roach"] is a big-time athlete at 6-foot-6. The forward prospect has plenty of athleticism to be a mismatch problem. Roach should make an instant impact as a rebounder with his size. He has received interest from FAMU as well as JUCU/NAIA/D3 schools. Roach holds a 3.0 GPA. [player_tooltip player_id="1065436" first="Hasmar" last="Francois"] 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065436" first="Hasmar" last="Francois"] was knocking down perimeter shots in practice. The 6-foot-2 guard seems to be more comfortable with the ball in his hands. Francois should be a senior leader for the Mustangs. He holds a 4.0 GPA. Thaddeus Ambrose II 2024 Thaddeus Ambrose II split time between JV and varsity last season. The 6-foot-2 guard has shooting ability and provides help on the defensive end. Ambrose has a high motor and adds depth in the backcourt. He holds a 3.6 GPA. Josiah Hickman 2022 Josiah Hickman played his freshman and sophomore seasons at McArthur before transferring to Mater Academy for his junior year. The 6-foot-4 guard is now back with the Mustangs and should provide depth on the wing.
