Open Gym Notes: Horace Hawks

<p><strong>Horace, ND</strong>- The Hawks had open gym tonight at Heritage Middle School. The high school gym is not ready yet, but it will be ready to roll in early December. I was impressed with the energy, talk, and effort that the players gave tonight. Hawks dived on the floor for loose balls and they sacrificed their bodies while making hustle plays around the basket. A few guys even tried to take charges. Overall the Hawks have talent. I was impressed with Brady's feel for the game on when he should attack and when to shoot the jumper. He is a smart and elusive cutter. Westphal knows how to cut behind certain players and when to cross the face for a good look. I loved his one-handed fall-away floater. His feet are great for such a youngster.</p> <p><strong>Carter Shcenck (2024) |6-0 F| </strong></p> <p>A big tough and thick kid that knows how to handle the game. His physicality is something to make note of. Carvin has handles like a guard and shoots it like a SG. However, Fish is a forward. He boards well and provides some physicality in the lane. At one point Carvin lit the nets on fire. He can score, end of story.</p> <p><strong>Deng Dut (2024) |6-0 F| </strong></p> <p>This kid is strong and powerful. Deng is still light on his feet. He is a beast on the o-boards. Dut also showed some outside shooting ability. Gavin slices through traffic. Super Smooth. He can hit from deep and score at the cup. Olson is a fast-twitch player. Gavin was one of the most impressive players in Horace. Williams showed off his ballhandling and quickness. Fast in transition and ever-present. Moose is long and smooth. He has many moves and Moose can finish creatively. Zach elevates nicely with perfect balance.
