Saturday November 13, PH spent the day at Modesto Christian HS. With players from NorCal and parts of the Central Section Area. There were 12 good teams divided into three groups, 4 in each group. Group II included Weston Ranch, of Stockton, Clovis North from the Fresno Area, De La Salle of Concord, and Sheldon from the Sacramento Area. Here’s Group II standouts.

First Team Group II

[player_tooltip player_id="1272294" first="Jordan" last="Webster"] 6’4 G/W of De La Salle HS 2022

Webster has taken his game to a higher level and is more efficient at what he’s doing on the court. He’s more aggressive with the ball in his hands. He has a mid-range jumper that he knocked down at a consistent rate at this event. He’s long, defends multiple positions, and gets out in transition.

Khristian Holmes 5’10 G of Weston Ranch HS 2023

Holmes is involved on both ends of the court, constantly in motion using his thick body to attack the rim, his handles to penetrate and kick out, and help with the team rebounding. He’s one of a couple facilitators on this team, pushing and passing in this teams up tempo style.

Nicko Jones 5’10 PG of Clovis North HS 2022

Jones is in push mode most of the game. His handles, and passing are on target in transition. He looks to exploit a defense that doesn’t get back on defense. The energetic guard is fast, and pulls up for 3’s and mid-range jumpers regularly. He’ll find cutters and slashers as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1254880" first="Devon" last="Hayes"] 5’6 G CG of Sheldon HS.

Hayes was up to his old self on Saturday. He seems to fill what ever void is missing at the time. He picked up his scoring in this case repeatedly knocking down 3’s in transition, and pull-ups in half court. The slick handling guard is hard to contain when he gets in that mode.

[player_tooltip player_id="1253965" first="Javon" last="Johnson"] 6’4 G/F of De La Salle HS 2022

Johnsons game is on the upswing. He’s playing at a good pace now. He’s comfortable handling the ball in transition and in half court sets sometimes initiating the offense. He was consistent on the attack using an improved mid-range jumper, and showing strength inside to score, and grab rebounds.

Second Team Group II

Elliot Mobley 6’1 G of Weston Ranch HS 2023

He and his twin brother bring lots of energy to this undersized team. This Mobley has quality handles, he uses his speed to get around defenders on drives to the basket. He’s a heads up defender that works well in the passing lanes, and in trapping situations.

[player_tooltip player_id="1255631" first="Billy" last="Haggerty"] 6’7 G/W of De La Salle HS 2023

Haggerty has improved his dribbling away from the basket. He’s comfortable working his way into scoring areas with his dribble. He’s hitting the dribble drive pull-up, 10-12ft in. His length makes it’s hard to block his shot when he gets into the lane. He’s a threat on the perimeter, with good passing and movement without the ball. He’s got good length to rebound and defend in the post.

[player_tooltip player_id="1254870" first="Rashaud" last="Bradley"] 6’4 W/F of Sheldon HS 2022

Bradley’s trying to show he can play away from the basket. He spent a good amount of time on the perimeter and handling the ball in transition. That’s where he was most effective in the open court, finishing strong, and slashing and cutting to the basket. He’s still hard to guard in the paint.

Jaylen Bryant 6’3 W/F of Clovis North HS 2023

Bryant has a good work ethic, and is quite active around the basket considering he’s a bit undersized for the post area, he had a few good moves around the basket for points, nonetheless he can hold his own defending, and rebounding in the post, and out to the perimeter with his lengthy arms. He blocked a few shots, and he runs the court.

John Flanigan 6’8 Post of De La Salle HS 2022

Flanigan is a big body that’s long and takes up space in the paint. He has the paint presence to be an effective defender, and rim protector. He works deliberately with solid post moves, and can step out to hit the 3-pointer at the top, and corners. He passes, and sets good screens for defenders to fight through.

Third Team Group II

[player_tooltip player_id="1254019" first="John" last="Semany"] 6’1 PG of De La Salle HS 2022

The crafty guard is always looking for ways to give his team the edge. He handles well in transition, he usually delivers the right pass to players sprinting to the basket or spotting up somewhere along the 3point line. He does a excellent job of running the offense. He usually gets 1 or 2 charging calls in his favor.

Elijah Mobley 6’1 g of Weston Ranch HS 2023

This Mobley twin seems to be more of the scorer between the two, that could change over time. They’re both are effective players on the court playing the up tempo style. He had a few open court finishes including the popular euro step that shows good body control and avoids charges. He’s good in trapping situations and he’ll help on the boards.

[player_tooltip player_id="1329592" first="Troy" last="Crighton"] 5’10 G of Sheldon HS 2022

Crighton continues to be a consistent player on this team. He does the fundamental things that frees him up for baskets. He fills the lanes, makes hard drives to the basket. He can hit open shots, and he takes care of the ball.

Conner Amundson 5’9 PG of Clovis North HS 2024

A good guard who can knock down shots with some consistency behind the 3-point line. He has decent handles and passes the ball well, withstanding ball pressure, he sees the court. He has a quick first step to get by defenders. He’s an alert player on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="766873" first="Marcellus" last="Franklin"] 6’5 F of Sheldon HS 2022

Franklin had good move from the mid post area, he seems to be more effective 10-12ft in. He can hit the jumper around the elbow, use good handles to get to the rim. At 6’5 he’ll help this team in rebounding and defending bigger players in the post.

Notable Names In This Group

[player_tooltip player_id="1256558" first="Richard" last="Banks"] 6’3 W of Weston Ranch 2024
Christian Calvillo 6’1 G of Clovis North 2023
Xavion Bell 5’9 G of Weston Ranch HS 2023
Steven Vorhees 6’5 C of De La Salle HS 2022
