Jackson EMC Tip-Off Classic: Top Forwards

2022 6-8 F [player_tooltip player_id="952581" first="Izaiyah" last="Nelson"] – Marietta

The Arkansas State-signee recorded 8 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal and 4 blocks. Nelson’s springiness and activity in the paint helped shut down scoring chances inside. He fouled out in the fourth quarter, but before he did, Izaiyah showed a flash of his high upside, taking his man off the dribble as he streaked across the paint for a floater.

2022 6-4 F Kadin Bailey – Jefferson

Former NFL linebacker Boss Bailey’s son, Kadin was a force in the paint with his brute size and strength. Bailey could overpower defenders in post catch situations. He scores through contact with ease, converting three And-1s on his way to 15 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.

2022 6-4 PF [player_tooltip player_id="1227066" first="Jontavion" last="Hughes"] – Franklin County

Another bruising interior monster, [player_tooltip player_id="1227066" first="Jontavion" last="Hughes"] used his wide frame and burly shoulders to power through the defense. He has very good hands and can score with his back to the basket with either a hook or spin baseline. Hughes had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

2022 6-3 W [player_tooltip player_id="1227067" first="David" last="Witcher"] – Franklin County

[player_tooltip player_id="1227067" first="David" last="Witcher"] is an explosive athlete. He’s long and wiry, able to jump out of the gym. He had two slams on Monday. Witcher is an improving outside shooter. While it’s not a hallmark of his game, it still must be respected. He had a nice pull-up from the mid-range. Witcher finished with 12 points and 4 steals.

2023 6-6 C Conyer Smith – Winder-Barrow

The quarterback of the football team is a big boy. He’s tall and sturdy from top to bottom. He was able to earn second chance opportunities and looked for his offense from 10-15 feet. He may not be as flashy as his electric teammates in the backcourt, but Smith plays within himself and gets the dirty work done. He had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block vs. Marietta.
