The Charlotte Hoops Challenge kicks off on Friday and rolls into Saturday. Here’s a look at a preview of some prospects to keep an eye on on Court 2.

12:30 PM Butler vs. West Cabarrus

Butler looks to kick off the 2021 Charlotte Hoops Challenge with a victory over West Cabarrus in the opening game on Court 2. [player_tooltip player_id="1104967" first="Zion" last="McDuffie"] is an athletic wing to know for Butler that likes to play the passing lanes, create steals and play above the rim. He’s looked good coming out of the summer and heading into his junior season. [player_tooltip player_id="1076351" first="Bryson" last="Heath"], Evan Youngblood and Nehemiah Strong are a few others to keep eyes on.

2:00 PM Hopewell vs. Berry

[player_tooltip player_id="1281455" first="Derrick" last="Eley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1220163" first="Julian" last="Mack"] are a strong backcourt duo to keep eyes on with Hopewell High. [player_tooltip player_id="1281454" first="Quay" last="Watson"] and Ty Thompson are a few others to keep an eye on with this bunch. They’re young but as they get more games together under their belt, look for them to be a solid squad. For Berry, senior Josh Stevenson has handled the scoring load so far for them, averaging 25.0 ppg through the first two games, shooting 59 percent from the field and 60 percent from behind the arc.

3:30 PM Grace Christian vs. Westminster Catawba

Westminster Catawba is led by [player_tooltip player_id="1008902" first="MJ" last="Collins"] (Virginia Tech), [player_tooltip player_id="1327620" first="Derek" last="Bradley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1036935" first="Richard" last="Black III"]. Collins leads the way with 20.5 ppg, showing off his shooting stroke and athleticism. Bradley is quite the creator in the paint and downhill. Black does well to set up his teammates and leads the team with 6.0 apg. [player_tooltip player_id="1158150" first="Rohahn" last="Petiote"] is an X-Factor with his ability protect the rim and finish with authority with his athleticism,

Grace Christian is a scrappy bunch led by Gary Williams, [player_tooltip player_id="1220008" first="Myles" last="Pettis"], [player_tooltip player_id="815617" first="Julien" last="King"] and Stefon McLeod. Williams has emerged as one of the top shooters from behind the arc over the past few months. Pettis and King are two combo guards that create for themselves and others and so far proven that this season. McLeod is a young prospect that does a lot of the dirty work for them to keep things going in a positive direction.

6:30 PM United Faith vs. Gaston Day

[player_tooltip player_id="932129" first="Xavier" last="McKelvy"] (Winthrop), [player_tooltip player_id="1111219" first="Marcus" last="Willis"], [player_tooltip player_id="1204932" first="Alex" last="Bates"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1315501" first="Lance" last="Gill"] are a few names to know for United Faith Christian Academy. McKelvy and Bates can get downhill and make plays at the rim. Willis fills up the stat sheet in a variety of ways with his ability to pass, rebound and make shots. Gill is their energy guy that can get rebounds and block shots around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="574463" first="Chris" last="Britt"], [player_tooltip player_id="1155694" first="Colin" last="Fayed"] and [player_tooltip player_id="993656" first="Evan" last="Montanari"] are off to quite the start at Gaston Day at 3-0 with a tough meeting ahead against United Faith. They’re a high IQ bunch that can get after it sharing the ball and making things happen on both ends of the floor. Four Heilig is another prospect to keep an eye on for them as well.
