Continue ReadingThe season is right around the corner, and you can feel the excitement. This year the 4A division consists completely of Las Vegas schools, meaning the city champ will also be crowned state champ. The storylines for the division should be compelling perhaps none more than the race for POY. While it’s way too early to tell who will come away with the award, it’s not too early to take a look at some of the top players.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'2" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 State NV 6’1 PG Las Vegas 2022 (#3PHN 2022) (featured image) – Jackson is one of the most decorated players in the state, and could be headed for a magical run. The do it all PG has a legitimate shot to lead 4A contender Las Vegas in points, rebounds, assist, and steals this season.
Alijah Adem Alijah Adem 6'2" | PG Spring Valley | 2024 State #174 Nation NV 6’1 PG Spring Valley 2024 (#8PHN 2024) – Adem is a talented PG ready to stake his claim as one of the state’s best regardless of age or class. The PG has a tight handle and shoots it well off the bounce. He should be the top player on one of the top teams in the division.
Dontrell Johnson Dontrell Johnson 6'5" | SF Trinity | 2022 State NV 6’5 SG Bonanza 2022 (#7PHN 2022) – I thoroughly expect Johnson to be one of the top scorers in the 4A this season. The shooting guard is a smooth scorer, with the ability to slash to the bucket, knock down shots in catch in shoot, and create for himself off the bounce. He will carry the load for Bonanza this season, making him a definite POY canidate.
Andrick Santillan Andrick Santillan 6'4" | SG Cheyenne | 2022 State NV 6’4 SG Cheyenne 2022 (#18PHN 2022) – I haven’t had a chance to see much of Santillan over the last couple of years, however, he has the talent to put up big numbers this season. The 6’4 wing has good size to go along with playmaking skills. Cheyenne has some talent, and his ability to create for both himself and others should lead to some wins.
Jaquavis Williford Jaquavis Williford 6'6" | SG Western | 2023 CA-S 6’5 SG Western 2023 – Williford is a trendy POY pick because of his ability to score the basketball. The wing has prototypical size, making him an attractive college recruit. He’s a mismatch nightmare, that could be capable of carrying Western to a deep run this season.
Nakalya Fabello Nakalya Fabello 5'10" | PG Valley | 2023 State NV 6’0 PG Valley 2023 – Fabello is pound for pound one of the toughest guards in the state. He’ll defend, and rebound for his team, but his best trait is his playmaking ability. Fabello will be the engine that makes the Vikings go this season. If he accomplishes that feat, look for him to be a player in the POY conversation.
