Conference Commentary
Top Ten: Maranatha Christian
This is MCA’s league to lose. With five all league players returning and several experienced bench players ready to step into bigger roles, Maranatha isn’t just the favorite for the Skyline, they are also a 5AA section contender and a top 10/11 team in Class AA entering the season.
Compete with Most: Trinity, New Life Academy, St. Agnes, Concordia Academy
Don’t sleep they say! And for once we will listen. The Tri Hawks won 7 of 10 in league play last year and return four all league players from a season ago. With four returning all league players they have an outside shot to make a nice run this year maybe be a contender. With everything they have coming back, New Life Academy will contend for the 4A section title regardless of the fact that they were 8-12 last year. St. Agnes is certainly one of the smaller teams but they return three of their best four players and they should take a step forward with experienced players returning. With the best player in the league, Concordia Academy should be able to compete with most.
Rebuilding: St. Croix Lutheran, St Croix Prep, Cristo Rey, Nova
The Crusaders start fresh after a strong group of seniors spent four years playing well for the program. They have good guards but experience and size are lacking. St Croix Prep has to rebuild most of it’s roster as well although they have a bit more back than their Lutheran namesake. The Lions won’t take long to rebuild things though as they have a strongly established program. The Pumas lost a group of seniors that was a key piece to their program for a long period of time. A new group of speedy, aggressive guards takes control after a six win season. Nova should take a step forward and be better this year but they are still rebuilding.
