PH NorCal Rankings have been updated. Here’s a look at the combo guard position (2024) While we make every attempt to evaluate hopeful prospects in the region. There are times when we miss some prospects for one reason or another. Many of these prospects have put themselves in position to be evaluated by playing with their club teams, and during live periods, not necessarily with their HS Varsity Teams.

[player_tooltip player_id="1253220" first="James" last="Moore"] 6’0 of Clayton Valley Charter HS.

Moore is an athletic player with good hops. He’s one of a handful of guards at 6’0 who we’ve seen throw it down in a game with ease. He has good power attacking, planting two feet, and powering up in the paint. He plays a balanced floor game with patience, and takes advantage of his opportunities. He can hit the 3-point shot in transition or on the catch with a good release.

[player_tooltip player_id="1119254" first="Brandon" last="Gibson"] 6’2 of Monterey Trail HS.

A physical guard with good handles. Gibson has a good first step, along with strength to get to the paint for strong finished through contact. He plays with good energy, and at 6’2 he brings some versatility to his game. He helps with the rebounding, he’ll guard bigger players in the post, he can run the offense up top.

[player_tooltip player_id="1256630" first="Jaden" last="Woodard"] 6’1 of Sheldon HS.

A good all around steady contributor for one of the top teams in the area. He limits his mistakes with the ball. He can handle well enough to get his own shot. Woodard works well in transition, and he has the footspeed to defend guards, and the strength to handle bigger players in the post area. At 6’1 he’ll help with the rebounding

[player_tooltip player_id="1256579" first="Will" last="Jenkins"] 6’1 of Jesuit HS.

A good guard at the JV level averaged 11 pts a game, along with 4.9 rebounds. Jenkins is an aware player on the defensive side of the ball often in good help position, and getting steals for easy layups. He’s a good floor runner often receiving the long pass up court. He makes good decisions with the ball, good range on his jump shot.

[player_tooltip player_id="1253530" first="Jaylen" last="Wheeler"] 6’0 of Salesian Prep HS.

A fast guard with superb handles, changes direction quickly and is pretty good in the transition game. In the half court can get by defenders with some consistency, while challenging post players at the rim. He’s got a mid-range jumper that’s improving steadily.

[player_tooltip player_id="1120017" first="Kai" last="Groleaus"] of San Lorenzo Valley HS.

An active guard with good handles, and has a good perimeter game. He has good vision, and passing skills, he likes to push the ball in transition. He’s actively looking to take his shot when it’s there, or attack the basket avoiding hard contact. He has good range on his jump shot.

[player_tooltip player_id="1120019" first="Arshawn" last="Salki"] 6’2 of De La Salle HS

Salki not quite there with his handles, but is improved and most likely falls into the shooting guard position instead of combo guard. He takes care of the ball, hardly turns it over and moves it if he doesn’t have a good open look. He has range beyond the 3-point line and good in the corners and wings on the catch and shoot.

[player_tooltip player_id="1120018" first="Demeke" last="Smith"] 6’3 of Santa Cruz HS

Smith might not be a combo guard for long. He’s growing and getting stronger. He’s athletic, and seems more comfortable closer to the basket, when we saw him last, he did show some ability to handle and score on the wings. He has good hops, aggressive taking it to the basket, and strength to battle on the boards. He has an improving jump shot. Smith has footspeed to guard multiple positions.
