Our preview content resumes with a look at the Preseason All-Junior Teams for Maryland and DC. Here is a rundown of the 15 players who were selected by our team.

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id="957025" first="Jahnathan" last="Lamothe"] | Guard | St. Frances (MD)

Giacubeno: Lamothe comes into his junior year after gaining significant momentum with his recruitment from the summer. The 6-foot-4 combo guard will be asked to provide continued floor spacing as a knockdown three-point threat, but also make some plays off the dribble and handle the ball-handling duties when called upon. Look for Lamothe to handle the extra responsibility successfully as St. Frances looks to avenge their BCL title loss from last season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1114066" first="Carlton" last="Carrington"] | Guard | St. Frances (MD)

Giacubeno: Carrington was off the scene last winter but returns to the MIAA and BCL as a big part of the Panthers’ roster. Now standing 6-foot-4, Carrington will bring more shooting to the St. Frances lineup as well as some underrated playmaking. Carrington has the mindset and style to fill up the scoring column when his shot is falling, so don’t be surprised if you see a couple of explosions throughout the 2021-22 season.

[player_tooltip player_id="999650" first="Isaiah" last="Coleman"] | Guard | National Christian (MD)

Wilson: Coleman has made his mark as one of the top prospects from the DMV over the past few months. Look for him to put up big numbers this year for National Christian.

[player_tooltip player_id="957030" first="Jeannot" last="Basima"] | Guard | John Carroll (MD)

Giacubeno: Basima had a memorable run last winter as he helped lead John Carroll to the BCL title while claiming BCL Tournament MVP on the way. The 6-foot-4 guard is extremely difficult to keep out of the paint and once he’s there, he finishes at a high rate. Basima is one of the better and versatile defensive guards you’ll find in the DMV who plays with a high motor that results in plus rebounding. Basima will be key in the Patriots protecting their championship and is expected to log a loaded stat line.

[player_tooltip player_id="957018" first="Amani" last="Hansberry"] | Forward | Mount Saint Joseph (MD)

Giacubeno: Hansberry makes his way to Mount St. Joe by way of transfer and immediately makes the Gaels a top team in the MIAA and BCL. His ability to dominate a game in the paint at 6-foot-8 has been made clear over the first two seasons at St. John’s (DC), but look for Hansberry’s versatility to be on full display, which will only strengthen the Gaels’ chances as the league’s favorite.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id="957022" first="Cam" last="Gillus"] | Guard | Sidwell Friends (DC)

Ayalew: Gillus has been on the map since his freshman year at Sidwell. His role has increased gradually over time, and that trend is expected to continue. Gillus has bulked up during the offseason and is ready to handle added responsibilities following the departure of [player_tooltip player_id="562690" first="Ryan" last="Cornish"] to Dartmouth.

[player_tooltip player_id="957024" first="Zane" last="Adnan"] | Guard | Bullis (MD)

Ayalew: Adnan has shown a gradual trend of improvement in his overall game since he emerged as a freshman. [player_tooltip player_id="775314" first="Erik" last="Reynolds"] and [player_tooltip player_id="775333" first="Cole" last="Hanin"] are gone, leaving him with an opportunity to show what he can do in a more significant role. Based on what we’ve seen in recent months, Adnan is poised for a breakout.

[player_tooltip player_id="957038" first="Jaden" last="Johnson"] | Guard | Bishop McNamara (MD)

Ayalew: Johnson is a safe bet to average double figures in scoring and about a half-dozen assists per contest this season. McNamara’s robustly built lead guard will be dynamic in the pick-and-roll with [player_tooltip player_id="777061" first="Favour" last="Aire"]. Johnson will also be tough to stop in the open court.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049862" first="Solomon" last="Ball"] | Guard | Saint James (MD)

Giacubeno: I was super impressed with Ball’s development over the summer. Not only has he polished up his overall game, but his body and athleticism are starting to come into form. Nearing 6-foot-4, the lefty will assert himself as an above-the-rim finisher this season for Saint James. While his team may have some ups and downs, look for Ball to post steady numbers in multiple categories.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049870" first="Jayden" last="Ross"] | Wing | Saint James (MD)

Ayalew: Ross is a versatile player that Saint James will deploy in multiple positions to great effect. He can be effective in small-ball when matching up with bigger opponents because of his relative quickness and willingness to mix it up. If the Saints can reach their full potential as a team, he will probably be one of the main reasons why.

Third Team

[player_tooltip player_id="1219862" first="Marcus" last="Banks"] | Guard | Riverdale Baptist (MD)

Ayalew: Banks is one of the best-kept secrets in the state of Maryland. He is a two-way guard who will do a bit of everything for Riverdale. If the Crusaders enjoy a fruitful season, Banks will likely play a key part in the team’s success.

[player_tooltip player_id="957046" first="Terrell" last="Webster"] | Guard | McKinley Tech (DC)

Ayalew: Webster’s decision to transfer to McKinley Tech gives the Trainers a massive boost. He will make a difference on both ends with his aggression and playmaking ability. Webster is an interesting darkhorse pick to win player of the year in the DCIAA.

[player_tooltip player_id="957020" first="Mike" last="Williams"] | Guard | Calvert Hall (MD)

Giacubeno: Williams will be the bell cow for Calvert Hall under new head coach Gary Neal. The 6-foot-3 guard is expected to put up plenty of points and do so in many ways, but if he can get his teammates involved on a routine basis, the Cardinals could be a team that pulls off a major upset or two in MIAA and BCL play.

[player_tooltip player_id="1114027" first="Aidan" last="Harris"] | Wing | St. Mary’s (MD)

Ayalew: St. Mary’s figures to be the team to beat in the MIAA B Conference, and [player_tooltip player_id="1114027" first="Aidan" last="Harris"] is expected to be their most dangerous offensive threat. The 6-foot-4 swingman is assertive and skilled. All signs are pointing to a productive junior year for Harris.

[player_tooltip player_id="957036" first="Marcel" last="Gardner"] | Forward | St. Andrew’s (MD)

Wilson: If St. Andrew’s wants to exceed expectations this year, Gardner is going to be the key. Look for Gardner to play a big part for Kevin Jones this year.
