It’s mid-October, and that means we’re about a month away from the official start of another high school season. In the upcoming days, we will be previewing respective conferences and regions around the DMV. In this edition, we take a closer look at the IAC.

(1) WHO IS THE TEAM TO BEAT?

The safest bet to win the league this year would probably be St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes. The Saints have a deep roster including multiple seniors with big-game experience.

(2) WHO COULD BE THE "DARK HORSES"?

Bullis is an interesting dark horse pick. The Bulldogs enjoyed a fruitful summer at the Capitol Hoops Summer League and DMV Live. If this team’s recent performances are any indication, they’ll be tough to beat.

We don’t know much about Episcopal’s roster outside of its returning seniors, but the Maroon are always well prepared. Expect them to be a challenging proposition for foes.

Georgetown Prep features a nice blend of young promise to go along with veteran leadership. Coach Blue’s bunch will be a must-see for basketball fans in the DMV.

(3) WHICH TEAM MIGHT HAVE THE BEST BACKCOURT?

As alluded to earlier, depth is the biggest strength for SSSAS, particularly in the backcourt. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="1221450" first="Garrett" last="Brennan"], [player_tooltip player_id="902006" first="Devin" last="Ceaser"], and Jeremiah Barnes will factor into the rotation along with up-and-coming 2023 guard Jack Muphy and newcomer [player_tooltip player_id="999624" first="Mason" last="So"]. All five can initiate offense and defend the ball.

(4) WHICH TEAM MIGHT HAVE THE BEST FRONT-COURT?

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="777082" first="Stefan" last="Marcelle"] is the anchor in the paint for the Little Hoyas, but he has plenty of help. Not many teams in the league will have an answer for 2024 6-foot-9 forward [player_tooltip player_id="1127317" first="Goap" last="Kodi"]. 2024 wing prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1127315" first="Khani" last="Rooths"] boasts more height than players on the front lines of most opposing teams as well. 2025 Frank Siaca-Bey has shown signs that he can make a difference as well.

(5) WHICH TEAM HAS THE MOST DEPTH?

This is a no-brainer. Incoming transfers [player_tooltip player_id="1165524" first="Connor" last="Dubsky"], Cole Cosby, and [player_tooltip player_id="957028" first="Bryson" last="Wilson"] have bolstered the already talented roster at SSSAS. Coach Jones will have many options at his disposal.

(6) WHO COULD WIN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR?

[player_tooltip player_id="902006" first="Devin" last="Ceaser"] | SSSAS (VA) ’22

Is there a more exciting player to watch in the DMV than [player_tooltip player_id="902006" first="Devin" last="Ceaser"]? It will certainly be fun to watch him perform in front of the Saints’ home crowd this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="962815" first="Charlie" last="Jackson"] | Episcopal (VA) ’22

Jackson has established a reputation as a walking double-double. If he can produce and lead his team to wins, it will be hard to give the award to someone else.

[player_tooltip player_id="904654" first="Bryce" last="Sewell"] | Georgetown Prep (MD) ’22

Sewell is the heart and soul of Georgetown Prep. If the team reaches its potential, his contributions will be a critical factor.

(7) WHO MIGHT THE LEAGUE’S TOP BREAKOUT CANDIDATES BE?

[player_tooltip player_id="1225255" first="Tyler" last="Boston"] | Bullis (MD) ’24

Boston is a promising guard prospect who excelled in a high-usage role this summer. He should be ready to take the next step.

[player_tooltip player_id="815609" first="John" last="Loughlin"] | Episcopal (VA) ’22

Loughlin is a hard-working guard who can shoot the lights out. Given the increased opportunities that he should receive, anticipate an eruption.

[player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] | Landon (MD) ’23

Perkins was one of the better finds of the summer. The dynamic lefty swingman is a difference-maker on both ends.

[player_tooltip player_id="1280952" first="Luke" last="Razi"] | St. Albans ’23

Razi caught our attention this summer with his grassroots club. He has since impressed with his high school squad at DC Live. The skilled guard should be a reliable option for the Bulldogs.

(8) WHO MADE OUR PRESEASON ALL-IAC TEAM?

[player_tooltip player_id="957024" first="Zane" last="Adnan"] | Bullis (MD) ’23

[player_tooltip player_id="837939" first="Adam" last="Angwafo"] | Bullis (MD) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="962791" first="Elliott" last="Black"] | SSSAS (VA) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="1221450" first="Garrett" last="Brennan"] | SSSAS (VA) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="902006" first="Devin" last="Ceaser"] | SSSAS (VA) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="904673" first="Miles" last="Hicks"] | St. Albans (DC) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="962815" first="Charlie" last="Jackson"] | Episcopal (VA) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="815609" first="John" last="Loughlin"] | Episcopal (VA) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="777082" first="Stefan" last="Marcelle"] | Georgetown Prep (MD) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] | Landon (MD) ’23

[player_tooltip player_id="1127315" first="Khani" last="Rooths"] | Georgetown Prep (MD) ’24

[player_tooltip player_id="904654" first="Bryce" last="Sewell"] | Georgetown Prep (MD) ’22

[player_tooltip player_id="999624" first="Mason" last="So"] | SSSAS (VA) ’23

[player_tooltip player_id="1107823" first="Miles" last="Webb"] | SSSAS (VA) ’22
