Players to Watch Outside the Top 50 (South Florida)

The 2024 updated rankings are out. You can click on our updated list by clicking here.

[player_tooltip player_id="1069620" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] is the highest rated prospect in South Florida at No.3. What players outside of the top tier should you keep an eye on?

Let’s take a look…

[player_tooltip player_id="1055707" first="Ian" last="Smikle"] – Suncoast (PH. 54)

[player_tooltip player_id="1055707" first="Ian" last="Smikle"] is a prospect with good size and length in the frontcourt. Moreover, his early return at forward has been good. The 6-foot-7 Smikle averaged 6.9 points and seven rebounds (3.2 offensive) as a freshman. That’s a good offensive board number at an early age. He will only fill out and get better around the glass. I think Smikle can be a reliable 3-5 in most situations at this stage. Playing on a talented Suncoast team should only help his development.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055744" first="Dominic" last="Issa"] – Sagemont (PH. 92)

Issa has a good high school frame for the Lions. The 6-foot-6 forward can play as a stretch and score in multiple areas. I think Issa can be a nice matchup problem for underdeveloped forwards. He rebounds and defends his position pretty well. He’s been a prospect I’ve liked for quite some time.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055732" first="Reece" last="Randolph"] – Chaminade-Madonna (PH. 84)

I don’t think you can question Randolph’s handle or ball skill in the backcourt. The 5-foot-9 guard can really move and has good burst with the rock in his hands. Furthermore, I love his play off the dribble and ability to attack the rim. You will find Randolph can stretch a defense and knock down shots from the perimeter as well. He’s a bit of a sleeper at this ranking that could really explode under head coach Rich Belton.

[player_tooltip player_id="1163365" first="Alex" last="Soto"] – Miami Palmetto (PH. 97)

[player_tooltip player_id="1163365" first="Alex" last="Soto"] is in a good place with Miami Palmetto. The Panther should be very good with players like [player_tooltip player_id="814912" first="Jimel" last="Lane"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1055700" first="Braylon" last="Burbridge"] in the fold. I think you can use Soto’s 6-foot-5 size in multiple areas on the floor. Let him grow and develop in this system and see where it takes him.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055731" first="Ryan" last="Powell"] – Calvary Chrisitan (PH. 226)

This is a steal ranking for [player_tooltip player_id="1055731" first="Ryan" last="Powell"]. The 6-foot-5 prospect can run the floor and score using his size in transition. I watched Powell over the summer and thought he moved well from side to side as a defender. He has a solid athletic base at this stage. Powell is playing at a powerhouse right now and under a good head coach in Cilk McSweeney. I also think Powell will grow be much bigger. All of this points to Powell having a lot of potential.
