Continuing our preview of the 2021-22 season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at 10 class of 2023 prospects who are primed for breakout junior campaigns...

[player_tooltip player_id="981140" first="Dino" last="Cook"] - SF - Kingdom Prep

Cook has been playing his best basketball this off-season and you see a whole new level of confidence in his game. The 6-foot-5 wing averaged just 3.8 points per game last season, but appears poised to be the go-to scorer for Kingdom Prep this winter. Cook is developing into a three-level scorer with a scary good mid-game game, able to put the ball in the hole off-balance or with a sweeping running hook shot. An underrated offensive rebounder, Cook also plays bigger than his size and goes after just about every miss.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138440" first="Caleb" last="Glaser"] - F - Appleton East

Glaser’s ranking isn’t accurate right now and he should be much higher. The 6-foot-6 forward had a terrific end to his summer and was one of the best players at the Prep Hoops Top250 Expo in September. Glaser is developing into a mismatch nightmare, able to slash from the perimeter and go to an array of post moves down on the block. He’s an active defender and rebounder with a strong frame and sneaky athletic ability. Glaser averaged 12.3 points per game as a sophomore for Appleton East. The Patriots return a ton and will be one of the most improved teams in the state. Glaser’s numbers may not take a huge leap, but his presence will be felt in the Fox Valley Association.

[player_tooltip player_id="981202" first="Ethan" last="Heck"] - SG - West De Pere

One of the top shooters in the state, Heck averaged 9.0 points per game as a sophomore. Heck has terrific positional size and 6-foot-5 and a quick, effortless release. He’s a plug n’ play guard that can compete in any style. He’s effective no matter who is on the floor with him as Heck moves so well without the ball and doesn’t need a ton of shots to be happy.

[player_tooltip player_id="1141638" first="Gavyn" last="Hurley"] - PG - Middleton

One of the top stock boosters over the summer, Hurley is now on the radar as a Division 2 recruit. He averaged 5.8 points per game as a sophomore during a shortened season for Middleton. The 6-foot-4 has the intangibles and well-rounded skillset that colleges covet. He’s a floor general that gets involved in every aspect of the game and makes others around him better.

[player_tooltip player_id="1028255" first="Arhman" last="Lewis"] - PG - Madison La Follette

Lewis was supposed to have his coming out party last season, but the Lancers did not take the floor due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An uptempo guard who can fly with the basketball, Lewis puts a ton of pressure on opposing defenses. Very skilled and quick on the ball, Lewis has some of the best break-you-down ability in the state. Paired with his outside shooting ability and extended range, Lewis should emerge as one of the tougher players to defend this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1024443" first="A.J." last="Lieuwen"] - G - Bay Port

Lieuwen averaged 10.5 points per game as a sophomore for Bay Port. Coming off a huge travel season, think Lieuwen moves to the forefront for the Pirates. A shot creator with skill and speed on the ball, Lieuwen can carry an offense as a scorer or facilitator and has take-over ability on that end of the floor. Lieuwen has a sweet pull-up game and a killer instinct that Bay Port could ride to the Fox River Classic title.

[player_tooltip player_id="1043749" first="Emmett" last="Lawton"] - SG - Notre Dame

Lawton has the green light every time he touches the rock and looked really good with his face-up game from downtown over the summer. Lawton is a hand-down, man-down shooter that’s not afraid to pull it at any point in the possession. He’s got the tools and confidence as a shooter to score from just about anywhere on the floor. Lawton averaged 5.7 points per game as a sophomore and should form a solid 1-2 punch in the backcourt with [player_tooltip player_id="1190379" first="Chris" last="Mitchell"].

[player_tooltip player_id="1134930" first="Max" last="Lucey"] - W - Cuba City

Lucey averaged around 10 points per game for a loaded Cuba City squad last season. He’ll be the No. 1 guy for the Cubans this winter and should be in store for a huge junior season. The 6-foot-3 wing is a terrific athlete who can shoot the ball. He’s active across the board as a rebounder, facilitator, defender, and glue guy. In the end, think Lucey is a highly sought-after Division 2 prospect, perhaps even Division 1.

[player_tooltip player_id="1039325" first="Matthew" last="Schmainda"] - G - Brookfield East

Loved what I saw from Schmainda over the summer and think this is one of the best players in the state that people aren’t talking about right now. Schmainda played a big role for the Spartans last season on their 19-5 squad, averaging 10.2 ppg. He’s a knockdown 3-point shooter, but Schmainda also has some of the fastest handles in the state. He scored the ball exceptionally well in isolation settings over the summer and made defenders look silly at times. Also a blue collar prospect, Schmainda brings a noticeable toughness to the floor each time out as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="953956" first="Luther" last="Smith"] - G - Sussex Hamilton

Bit of a rebuild job for the Chargers this winter, but Smith has two years of varsity experience under his belt. A sweet-shooting guard, Smith averaged 14.9 points per game as a sophomore and stepped up once Patrick Baldwin Jr. went down with a season-ending injury. Smith has in-the-gym range and can knock down tough shots with ease when he's feeling it. Shooting nearly 43 percent from downtown last season, Smith was a key focal point for his team over the summer while playing in the Under Armour Circuit.

Others: [player_tooltip player_id="963146" first="Logan" last="Arndt"] (Oconomowoc), [player_tooltip player_id="1022499" first="Bennett" last="Fried"] (La Crosse Central), [player_tooltip player_id="1021576" first="William" last="Whorton"] (Milwaukee King), [player_tooltip player_id="1026710" first="Daniel" last="Robinson"] (Waukesha South), [player_tooltip player_id="1138443" first="Andrew" last="Verhelst"] (Sheboygan Lutheran), [player_tooltip player_id="1139642" first="Vincent" last="Vandervest"] (Bay Port), [player_tooltip player_id="1203012" first="Faizon" last="Farr"] (Beloit Memorial), [player_tooltip player_id="981148" first="Qi’andre" last="Washington"] (Kingdom Prep), [player_tooltip player_id="1043748" first="Ethan" last="Wall-Atim"] (Notre Dame), [player_tooltip player_id="1141633" first="Connor" last="Pytleski"] (Green Bay Southwest), [player_tooltip player_id="1039297" first="Jamar" last="Lampley"] (Brown Deer)
