The 2022 Rankings All-Star Team is a collection of all the players ranked by their position. Based on their positional rankings, we came up with the following teams:

First team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="891899" first="Mozae" last="Downing-Rivers"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891900" first="Fontaine" last="Williams"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="952433" first="Jordan" last="Brown"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="787626" first="Mark" last="Mitchell"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="891906" first="Trey" last="Moala"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1075931" first="Jace" last="Linenberger"].

Second team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="889463" first="Max" last="Alexander"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891909" first="Christian" last="Bowen-Webb"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="946262" first="Seth" last="Madron"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="787613" first="Gradey" last="Dick"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1075927" first="Henry" last="Thengvall"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1075929" first="Keaton" last="Williams"].

Third team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="891903" first="Cooper" last="Jackson"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891917" first="Zaid" last="Dajani"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1131273" first="Kernan" last="Bundy"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="891898" first="Aidan" last="Shaw"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1076261" first="Landon" last="Wagler"], C [player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"].

Recognizing that many of our ranked players could play several different positions (and some of the top players defy a position category), this is by no means a grouping of the best players into teams. But just for fun, we made teams of the players based off their rankings.

Now, as you will notice, just one of the players above ([player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"], St. Marys) comes from a school in the 3A classification or smaller.

So to give the small school guys their due, we made the 2022 Rankings Small School All Star First Team, the top player at each of our six positional classifications from a 1A, 2A or 3A school.

The small School First Team was:

PG [player_tooltip player_id="1076403" first="Brett" last="Sarwinski"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891932" first="Cason" last="Richardson"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1075928" first="Harrison" last="Voth"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="1076412" first="Brady" last="Klotz"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1139918" first="Charlie" last="Russell"], C [player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"].

Here is the 2022 Rankings Small School All Star Second Team (listed by position, name, state ranking/positional ranking, size and high school):

Small School First Team:

Point Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1195606" first="Brady" last="Deges"], #85/#10, 5-foot-8, South Gray HS (1A Div. 1):

For those who hadn’t heard of him before, Deges made a name for himself last spring when he played huge in the state tournament. His quickness and ability to score at every level opened things up for his talented teammates. Though they came up just short of a championship, Deges earned a lot of notoriety. He’s a tough gamer, exactly what you’d expect from blue-collar South Gray.

Combo Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1147992" first="Brayden" last="Meseke"], #63/#20, 6-foot, Wabaunsee HS (2A) (pictured):

Like Deges, Meseke earned a lot of attention in the Chargers’ state championship run. Though they ultimately fell to Hillsboro, Meseke’s refusal to lose encapsulated Wabaunsee’s miracle season. They could have given up when the started 1-10, but Meseke and company never let up. For his great season, Meseke earned second-team 2A.

Shooting Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1139910" first="Cooper" last="Autry"], #44/#6, 6-foot-5, Holcomb HS (3A):

A fine shooter and all-around player who gets known across the state for SSA Hoops Elite, Autry is one of the many fine players coming out of Holcomb. He earned honorable mention 3A last year in a supporting role. He’ll step into a brighter spotlight this fall.

Small Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="891923" first="Mason" last="Thomas"], #67/#15, 6-foot-3, Royal Valley (3A):

Another forward from Royal Valley to make the small school all-stars (joining Klotz) Thomas is a versatile, gritty workman. He’s listed as a small forward, because he can take on big men in the lane, run the court with guards, play inside and out. He’s a smooth, agile athlete who isn’t afraid to bang with big men. He’s a jack-of-all-trades for the Kansas Hoggs, and while he might not light up the scoreboard, he impacts the game in countless ways.

Power Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="1195604" first="Jordan" last="Fudge"], #59/#7, 6-foot-8, Frontenac HS (3A):

Though he’s second team at the small school level, Fudge’s physical gifts take a back seat to no one. He is as impressive physically as anyone on the court, and he’s growing into that frame from a skills sense. He can leap, bang and run. His numbers were superb last year – 17.8 points and 11.7 boards – earning him third-team 3A last year. His next step in development will be exciting to watch.

Center: [player_tooltip player_id="1139930" first="Trever" last="Quaney"], #72/#5, 6-foot-8, Burlingame HS (1A Div. 1):

Quaney is a traditional center who dominates at the 1A level. He earned second-team in 1A Div. 1 for his 16.3 points and 11.9 rebounds, and is a constant threat in the lane. He runs the floor and bangs like a football player, and he’s good on the gridiron too.
